All right first I want to say I am sorry that part 2 is not on yet, I have not forgotten about this, and that I just wanted to wait until part 3 was getting somewhere. Part 2 is finished and will be posted after some more proofreading. Below is one of many scenes that are inspiring this story.

I know its been a while since I wrote anything and three of my stories have yet to be finished and for that I apologize. I just do not have the time. I have recently finished the drawing of #9. I have been fighting over the design of this locomotive for over a year and I finally got it right (three versions later)

Last but definitely not least one of the largest locomotives on the ET&S. One of the Baldwin 2-6-6-2s #20. I really just started writing. Drawing is my real passion. All of the drawings are to scale. The 7 and 14 are 3/8in scale and the 20 is 1/4in scale. They take anywhere from 18 to 24 hours of work to finish. Right now I have two drawings in the works the 9 and the 22.

I would have a shot of that fine pacific #9 but I have yet to finish the drawing of the locomotive. However I do have drawings of locomotives she would have raced by.
This is the #7 one of three 4-6-0s on the line.

Not just another Special (Fiction Story) - By joneau261 on 01/26/07 at 17:13:48 - '3233806.jpg' 71 KB
The following story takes place on the Hillsdale, Rockville, and Western Railroad, my own model railroad.

It was a bright and sunny July day for the HR&W.
Former Union Pacific 4-8-4 806 was in charge of a nine car passenger train filled with riders.
The trip would run on the entire 25 mile HR&W line, something not done too often.
806 was all ready to leave. The train left promptly from Hillsdale at 9:00, right on time.
Things went well for the trip. 806 performed beautifully on the track, peforming spectacular runbys and steam shows.

The special arrived at Rockville on time at 11:00. Things were going smoothly, but as some stormy weather came in, troubles were brewing.
First, there were problems getting the 806 turned on the wye. The wye had not been used for a while, and then the storms began.
Hastily, the crew moved 806 to the back of the train, to have it run tender first for the return trip.
The train left Rockville an hour late, around 1:30. The bad weather was also causing a slow order, keeping the train down to 15mph.
Then about two miles out of Rockville, as the storm began producing thunder and lightning, the train came to an emergencey stop.

The crew converstation with the Hillsdale Operator:
"We seem to have a problem with 806."
"What's going on? Any trees?"
"No, we found out that we're running out of oil. The water has been leaking into the oil storage, and we can't fire 806 now."
"But all of diesels aren't running now. They're being repaired."
"What about 3233?"
"We can't send her out there. You guys are having problems, but 3233 could never handle it."
"Have we ever tried?"
"Well, no."
"Well, we just heard that this area is having flooding, and we had to shut down 806."
"Where are you guys?"
"Two miles from Rockville."
"Oh man. Alright, I'll send 3233 out there. You guys just hold on."
"OK, we're not going anywhere."

After 20 long minutes, a deep mournful whistle was heard. 3233 was coming to the rescue!
After coupling to the train, 3233 started to pull the train. But this was a problem, as there was a 2% grade right where it was starting for the next mile. 3233 slipped and slipped, until something suddenly happened.

To be continued...
