ex-C&O caboose to be restored for ealge project

I'm going to restore an ex-C&O caboose in Delmar, DE for my eagle project. It's wooden painted in red with PRR roadname on it. Why it's painted PRR? I don't know. But I'm going to replace the windows, sand down the whole caboose by hand, repaint it, replace a few boards on the sides, and I MIGHT replace the floorboards as well(I'm not quit sure if I will or not). Here's some pictures and info on it....

Are you doing this on your own? This seems like a big project for one person. I  wish only the best of luck to you

Sounds like a nice community project.
"BUT" you are REALLY underestimating how long it will be to sand a thing like that.
The sanding will involve so much time, I am afraid that it will be a project killer, and sap your enthusiasm, leaving you disappointed, and the thing 1/2 done.

Scraping the loose stuff off, or powerwashing the loose paint will get you to a good "base" where you can apply the new paint.
It looks to be in a park, so there will be limited (none) electric power to help with tools and such.
Painting and replacing the few bad side boards will keep you plenty busy!
Good luck.

Hay I have 3 1/2 years to get this done. I think I'll have the time to do it all. Plus I can get some of my friends from the model RR club too.

Here's another site I found on it. And this site also has "The Last Highball Signal" as well. Some one repainted that for his eagle project just a few years ago.

That'll be a heck of a project. You'll need a LOT of help. Get as many friends and family you possibly can. Any plans once it's done?

PRR90, from one future Eagle Scout to another, I wish you nothing but the best of luck to you. Restoring that caboose seems like nothing compared to my project (installing a bulletin board on the former Montour Railroad ROW, now the Montour Trail).

Well the other construction workers finished it. Here's a picture I took yesterday. i'm just glad it's done. I hate to see a caboose unkept.

That looks great. Did you work on it yourself? How many people did this? How long did it take? One more thing, did you do the inside  or both?

I didn't do it. I don't even know the people that did it. I'm just showing what great work they did on it.
