So the big passenger station in the top pictures no longer exists? When was it razed? 2004? Guess Amtrak didn't want it

AMTRAK doesn't want most of the grand old stations - just cost too much for them to maintain, what with the limited service most of them see. If they can get somebody else to flaot the note or there is a multiple use deal to spread the financial oad, then they are willing.

Example is Dallas, where the city refurbished the station for a visitor center, and also for use in conjunction with DART and TRE. And AMTRAK. They are good to go with that. There was a proposal (which may still be officially alive, but it ain't gonna happen) to switch service in Fort Worth from the old Union (Santa Fe) station on Jones Street to a refurbished (Concourse and Waiting Room) T&P Station. Since the Multi-Modal Station has been built, serving TRE, AMTRAK (Heartland Flyer and Texas Eagle) and Fort Worth T, no need for that, though TRE does go to T&P Station, which has been (or maybe is being) refurbished for apartments, I think. I don't see AMTRAK switching to it, even though both Union and Intermodal require a longer back-up move than T&P would.
