Hey all

Does anyone here ever photograph and include people in their railroad photographs as a subject? If so, I'm curious to see other works out there.

I do everything I can to try and include people in the photographs, for the purpose of evoking abit of emotion and to make for a really compelling subject. Here is an example. I believe this is more of an important subject than locomotives and trains themselves.

How about this one on a platform in China

The Colonial westbound at Newport News, VA July 19, 1987. That is Doug Campbell, the operator at XA, with the hoop.

This is my pic, it is kind of funny because I was not too happy when I noticed these folks would be in the shot,  but know I like it.

In June of 2005 I was lucky to visit The East Broad Top on its second operating weekend of the year. The last run of 2004 had been a photo charter, and Mikado #14 had her brass boiler bands and white driver tires blacked out to look as she did in the early 1950's. The crew didn't clean the paint off for a couple of weekends in 2005 (Much to the displeasure of the railroads owner who likes his engines "spit and polish" clean). Veteran engineer Tom Holder and I struck up a conversation about his days as a fireman on the Pennsy and I snapped a couple of timeless photos of him and old #14- both in "IN SERVICE" appearance, while waiting at the enginehouse.

Bill,

You deserve a lot of praise for that photo!!!

It is simply incredible!!!

Mind If I give it a caption? It's a very poetic photo;
"Now listen here, I must tell you the tale,
    Of the old steam engine, and the iron rail."

Very, VERY nice stuff...

Anyway, I have a few of mine own "Railroads and People Shots"...

Here's one of my best ones...

Joe...
