Pentolopen (spell?)

One Pentelopen = five Popolopen.

It's over the Popolopen Creek, just south of Fort Montgomery.

A bit of trivia: the Bear Mountain Bridge was originally proposed as a railroad bridge, one of several projected in the Hudson Highlands in the 1870's and 1880's (Poughkeepsie was the only one actually completed).

The footings under the Bear Mountain Bridge towers were actually poured for the railroad bridge; it was completed as a highway bridge in 1924.

This one's for NathBDP: I'm dying to know where you took that astonishing shot on page 2 (with the bridges). It's one of the best pictures I've ever seen. Looks like digital? What info can you give me on the setup?
Thanks in advance! And I'm not just patronizing - that's a truly incredible picture

Thanks,  Bob who graciously posted in responding to your question got the location right.  It was done on 35mm with Fuji Velvia film at 20mm.

...the State Capitol dome is larger.

And covers a much greater multitude of sins. The dome in Altoona is the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, of the Altoona-Johnstown diocese. Among other contributions, its loudspeakers add recorded hymns on bells to the mix of train horns, thundering slack action, screaming dynamic brakes, and police/fire sirens to ensure that Altoonians don't get lazy and sleep past 6 on Sunday mornings. - Bob

Thanks to you all for answering that question...I might never make it there, but at least I know where it is!

That picture wasn't even digital?? Wow...looking at it, I can't believe it, just because of the clarity...what perfect conditions you had!

My favorite "collage". It's not so much what it is than where it is. The old Bangor and Portland RR line. Bangor PA is where I grew up (we know Jim). The two on your left are at Main Street crossing in Bangor. The center and right are from Martins Creek area. Chased it 11/2002. Hope you like it! Jim...

Charlie,
Sorry it took so long to respond. Harrisburg is West of CP-Wyomissing Junction (Reading, PA). Its a very good place to railfan the NS Harrisburg Line.

Take Care.

I don't know who complained but shame on them. The thread is called YOUR FAVROITE photograph.  As long as you like it that's all that counts...
