Greetings! As I said at the end of the RP.Net thread, this thread is for you to show off pictures you think are excellent, but that other people may not have agreed with you on. This is a place for cloudy day shots, backlit shots, common power in common pose shots, and so on, as long as they are the best you could possibly have done. If the photo was rejected for a reason you agree with, please don't post it here. If you were told that it was too dark and you agree that it was too dark, please don't post it here. If you want advice on how to tweak the picture for resubmitting or on how to do it better next time you're at that spot, post it on the "What's Wrong With This Picture?" thread. So, let's see what you've got! RobR

REJECTED! Two reasons... 1. Bad cropping (Screener has no idea what is to the left and right of the borders) 2. Image too small (If the upload is OK, who is he to argue with his own uploading tool. Reject it there. Anyways, there's the pic. I will post the uncropped version as well. The Rat

Is it the "Bad cropping, edges visible" rejection or is it the "Bad cropping, this means the cropping is bad in relation to the composition" rejection? I suspect the screener didn't like the lack of space above and below the engine, rather than the cropping on the sides. I only say this because I've had a couple similar close-ups rejected for the same basic reason. Why they don't like that kind of close-up, I don't know. Jon

Bad Cropping: "Most often this means that the composition of the photo is poor as it relates the cropping of the image." The three things of intrest are included in that photo. The train, the milepost and that stop sign. If I would have backed off anymore, more of the nothingness would have been in the shot. The focal length was 230mm of a 70-300mm lens The Rat

I agree with you about the composition . . . I liked the image a great deal. I'm just saying, I've run into screeners who don't like that much engine in the photo - I can't begin to explain why! Jon

My latest rejection, for high sun and too soft (undersharpened). Interestingly enough, I have a photo shot in the same location about 20 minutes later that was accepted into the database. I doubt the sun dropped that much in 20 minutes! Jon

RP thought it was a bad angle, but I thought it was kind of a neat shot. PRR (Juniata Terminal) E8 at DC Union Station for the 100th Anniversary. Jon

Reason(s) for Rejection: - Poor Lighting (Dark): The image is too dark. - Too Much Noise/Grain: Noise is the digital equivalent of grain. - Subject Too Far Away: The train is too far in the distance. - Poor Image Quality: The technical quality of the image needs to be improved.

Rejected upon appeal for "High Sun." Prior submissions of Q405 along the same line, same time of day, same or comparable time of year have been accepted, so I just thought it odd. But hey, that's why I rarely try my stuff over there anymore.

- Poor lighting (Backlit): The image is backlit or doesn't feature enough light on the nose or visible sides of the subject.
