Referring to the photo in Harry's last post, could that first car behind the locos be one of the PRR's horse baggage cars?

After I had posted the link for this photo, I started thinking the same thing.....I can recall reading about these unusual cars quite some time ago, but was not at all sure regarding any factual details concerning them......

A truly classic PRR head-end scene from 1951.

The old Railway Express truck further serves to date this charming old scene..........

No date or location given for this stunning PRR view; without a doubt, the hulking engine in charge clearly was a proud and powerful beast, sprung from the pages of railroad mythology.

This is easily one of the best "head-end" views I've found thus far.......

LV Train #8 at Penn Haven Jct., PA (no date).

Views like this recall an era when even one or two head-end cars could be counted on in many consists of that era, burnishing the rails of the Nation..............

A classic C&O scene at New Miami, Ohio, 1966 (Armco Steel Plant in the background)

This view is very much atkin to what commuters saw as they rode CNJ trains to and from Jersey City until 1967, along the old Perth Amboy Branch, which ran through the heart of the "Chemical Coast".

Well I remember those long-ago days......
