On Fallen Flags - NICKEL PLATE a question up from a new writer. Stated interest in the line's trains, 1954 - 1957, between Cleveland and Bellevue.
See: http://forums.railfan.net/forums.cgi?board=NKP;action=display;num=1337460245;start=0#0

Shouldn't be that daunting a request. I have my own ideas of appearances of NKP in the time. Counting some time when I lived in Buffalo and Chicago,
I was otherwise not "on line" NKP. Presumably, there are many good photos on file here, and elsewhere, documenting the Bellevue line...

Anyone up to putting together an appropriate NKP study? Respond to the inquiry on the NKP board?

An interesting, worthy discussion, surely, but, one that, in all honesty, I cannot take part in.

My knowledge of NKP passenger service is limited only to the connecting through services to Hoboken, via Buffalo and the DL&W/E-L.

I leave this one, then, in the capable hands of the experts in the field........<G>

Thanks! Thought of you as a hot lead who could deliver the NKP shots. Over the years, it a vital joint line partner
with L V and D L & W over BUFFALO Gateway. Figured you might know where the photos are on the various
available sites...

This request is a bit aggravating to me. I can just picture NKP trains of the era. At date window noted, no idea
whether the Bellevue passenger schedules remained in steam power. The line had steam on its BUF - West Main
into ca. 1963, and in my own recall. The line a superb property...

For whatever reason, only a few passenger photos on the Fallen Flags site for NKP.

This somewhat-blurred image was snapped at Valparaiso, 1958.....

It will do, especially if one can perceive what in the view. I'm seeing: Two PRR, Two nee' C&O LWT Coaches,
One HW Remodel (poss) Lounge - Diner, One nee' C&O LW Sleeper, and Two HW Sleeper Cars at rear?

The photo may be presumed to show NKP practice of the day? This may have been the connection running
CGO - CVE - BUF? A good photo for content! I'll let the NKP guys sort it out if I guessed the equipment lineup
correctly...

FAIK, this may have been one of the CVE - Bellevue "Locals" of the time? Consist looks right. Something of a seventy (70) mile run,
and point just West of Norwalk.

What it may have looked like, two decades later, is another matter...

Never let it be said that NICKEL PLATE did not run a CLASS ACT!

In subsequent graduate level study, all may learn it was always more than Old King Coal with them. The line also very heavy Automotive.
And, yes, it did run a truly "Fast Freight Line"! Provided "dignity" to it, though not in the Tariff Items...

For those who went onto highway carrier work, some picked up and now run with quite successful Automotive empires. I can name names!

Should we have a paucity of photos, why you made this change escapes me...

The Geneva, OH view captures a long ago, maybe another Planet, U.S.? This most
certainly isn't Kansas, anymore. Nor is it in touch with present AMTK?

Reason behind noted revision was that, at present, I am having some ''sticky'' keyboard issues, and, this is proving an annoyance; especially that one key, whose characters are instrumental in link posting, now takes at least 15-20 minutes of tapping, pounding, and holding down, before it finally yields.

Re-using old link with needed characters intact was a much easier option in putting up new link.

I think a new keyboard is needed.....

Vern/All.......

When discussing the stunning blow to the railroads when most of the mails were removed from the rails, not only do the staggering financial losses become startingly clear, one also realizes that the railroads now found themselves with large numbers of cars that suddenly became obsolete.

While combos, of course, could still carry passengers, most were retired from revenue service, once head-end traffic disapeared.

RPO's, mail-storage cars, baggage cars, and express cars were either converted into MOW vehicles, sold off, or scrapped.

The sheer number of passenger runs axed during the 60's, with the removal of most head-end traffic, is indeed sobering.

Recovery was NOT an option here......

And, thus it has come to this? One may be reminded of readings from ECCL, "...a time to do this, a time not to do it..."? So, now this trail leads
to Railroad Cost Accounting conventions? You bet! The Railroads took some enormous write downs on equipment, once it was necessary to bail
from work of the various Passenger Departments. (It hints why DRG&W ran conventional trains, rather than better RDC CAR assignments.)

To picture the enormity of it all? Go back to the link, Photo of R E A complex in Pittsburgh. It was the same at numerous huge facilities all over
the Nation. I weary of discussing all of it...

BTW: NICKEL PLATE RAILROAD. A quick 'Net Search reveals at least two, long established "Historic" sites. It is not that difficult to estimate
its various operations. (At this point, I can guess what a CVE - Bellevue schedule looked like in 1954 - 1957)...
