Vern.......

A similiar waterfront scene could be found on the NH at Wood's Hole.

This was an especially busy "open air" terminus, with passengers transferring between the NH RDC's (in later years) and the ferries running to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard

An excellent 1957 view of this terminal is found in "THE NEW HAVEN RAILROAD ALONG THE SHORE LINE", by Martin J. McGuirk.......

No details whatsoever (big surprise!) given on this unusual LIRR car at Jamacia.

MOW service of some sorts?

Modernized (remaining) windows suggest car was updated before removal from revenue service.

Note blanked-out vestibule end windows......would make a handsome museum piece today.......

Same car, later view; car nows sports MTA paint......

http://world.nycsubway.org/perl/show?60394 (looks like car is lettered "INSTUCTION CAR")

Just came across 1965 view of this car......

Not yet carrying her new name, we see LIRR parlor "NAPEAGUE" (#2059) at Jamacia.

Car was built in 1939 by ACF for the PRR ("HAMILTON CLUB"/13 DBR).

Note ex-NH car at left..........

LIRR's only RDC's clattering through the maze of switches at Jamacia.

These cars were OOS by a least 1967, with the RDC-2 being sold to the B&O.....

That is Instruction car #10, rebuilt from a former PRR P70 coach.

Most of the histories can be found on the Long Island pages at the Passenger Car Photo Index, along with a multitude of links to various cars...

Jerry:

GREAT JOB on "tracking down" further info on these cars!

I HAD a hunch that the "instruction car" might have been a P-70, but wasn't totally sure.

Thanks again!

Two 2008 views of a pair of MN "covered wagons"; as of that date, one unit had the distinction of being the oldest diesel locomotive in passenger service in the nation.

These handsome machines traced their lineage back to the MBTA, ICG, and GM&O........

NYS&W corrugated baggage-parlor car "SUTHERLAND FALLS CLUB" (built by P-S) clearly shows its NH heritage*.

On the "Fallen Flags" site's LIRR page, this car is listed twice, as a "Coach-Lounge" and also as a "Lounge".

Car also operated on the P-C...........

http://rr-fallenflags.org/li/li-cl901ags.jpg

*"PASSENGER CAR PHOTO INDEX" also states that car was ex-PV #901
