Good Photo! "Substantially similar" a possible better turn of phrase? Here, my conjecture, the B & A cars also of
possible Bethlehem Steel build heritage? I'll leave this one to the B & A/ N Y C faithful...

Jerry.....

Good question!

Nearly three decades later, that car could be just about anywhere, unless it stayed on the "Susie-Q"........

Let me do some further checking......

Did HFM mention this one, some pages back? You know this car, of course, yes?

"Official Register" of MAR 1962 describes as A C L - Virginia Beach, "PDS" Car Type, and detail (Note R) entry:
Double Bedroom - Bar - Lounge (No ACL fleet number shown).

This in a group of six, "----- Beach" Cars. IIRC, these should have been "first line" equipment relied upon for service
in the line's featured CHAMPION schedules. Recall seeing these pass through Baltimore on the ACL trains.

Please! Please! If any of these look and grab photos have captions, please include the data! Date on the STEAMTOWN scene would be helpful.

Note the restoration, though well intended, is apparently specious. The ACL CHAMPION Trains were its product, sold under its branding. A result
is the entire train looked the way ACL wanted it.

At STEAMTOWN, the entirely dubious signage in PRR Tuscan Red background, and the Dulux Gold lettering. Ooooops! Couldn't possibly be so,
IMHO! That color treatment on trains which were clearly PRR, with some of the equipment provided by joint lines for pool service.

Odd Note, post merger into SCL. The 6607 number simply use of next available numbers in SAL 66-- series. That maneuver can fool the unwary.
It was definitely an ACL Car!

Vern.....

IF most of these "pick and grab" photos HAD decent captions, I would most surely relay them here!

IF you are told the car number AND possibly the location, it is truly something to CELEBRATE!

As you and I have discussed often, many sites give VERY minimal info in photo captions, at best!

In fact, the ONLY info in caption of STEAMTOWN photo was that the "VIRGINIA BEACH" was in "faux Pullman paint"!

And so it goes......

Thanks! And, SIGH! The damage these bozos do by failure to document!

I rather wish old Dante were around, so I could share a coffee with him, at least. I suspect these "sloppy captioners" sinners,
by deeds done, and deeds left undone, qualify for Eighth Circle (Fraud) in the classic, "Inferno" works!

It is unfortunate that records are not often kept when photos or slides are taken... out of the 100s of slides in my collection only a small number actually have location and date, almost all purchased off of eBay.  But at least photos and slides are proof of what was... for which I am glad.  Likewise, George receives a lot of shots to share on his site every week, but not often is there a lot of information to go with the shots.

Jerry.....

I concur 100% on your views.

When vintage rail photos are not captioned (or just barely so) it indeed proves a great hinderance in the documentation of the subject matter and/or location.

In my case, photos such of these (of subjects I am familiar with) I can pretty much deal with (but, even here, only up to a point).

However, when I come across old photos of railroads and equipment that I know little about, that is when things start to prove difficult.

To be honest, there are many times when I come across old pictures of lines and equipment I knew quite well, but, without proper captioning, there are many times where I find myself delving into guesswork, which, of course, does little to substantiate historical accuracy....,.

Back in the 70's, the ex-BLUE COMET open platform observations used in CNJ commuter service were the last of their kind in revenue service.

I had the rare pleasure (by chance) of riding the open platform of one of these historical cars, back in 1975.....a true railroading experience which I'll always remember.....
