Union Station, 1925.

Note the massive concourse, foolishly destroyed in the late 1960's.....

For decades, handsome PRR sleepers glided in and out of the shadowy, echoing bowels of Union Sation; here we see "BIRCH FALLS" resting at the coach yards, back in 1964.....

PRR "handout" to "BROADWAY LIMITED" patrons, circa late 50's/early 60's.

Yes, riding the rails was still an elegant, stylish experience, way back when.....

Rode The General out of Union in April 1966.  The glory was much faded by then - especially as compared tot he Texas Chief I had come up from Tejas on.

The BURLINGTON also used UNION STATION; this steam shot (at Chicago, 1956) features a background sure to please classic varnish buffs.....

This undated BURLINGTON photo at Chicago reminds me of those gorgeous brass models from PACIFIC FAST MAIL, seen in the old MR and RMC ads, so long ago.....WHAT A STUNNER!!

An interesting note on BURLINGTON commuter service to Union Station.....

"Wild West"-type open platform cars were still being used on some commuter runs as late as 1948.

These old relics were retired when the first of the new "gallery"-type cars began entering service.

At that time, the open-platform cars were retired and all remaining standard coaches were rebuilt and air-conditioned.

Talk about a "night and day" transistion.......

An interesting AMTRAK-era view from 1975, just outside of Union Station.

This handsome MILWAUKEE car is indeed a far cry from today's generic equipment.....
