Does anyone know the real location?  Can you see the locomotive from the river bank?

Thanks.

!?  You can find the exact location coordinates on the Dive New Jersey website or more information at the NJ Museum of Transportation website.

Guys -

I do believe you are talking about two different "sunken loco" incidents here.

The one Andy mentions are the two 2-2-2 engines sunk off the coast in 1854.

The one afboone mentions was a CNJ engine that derailed off the Matawan trestle (the same one that burned in the 1946), date unknown, but I believe this to be a "Wierd NJ ghost story". There ares tories of one south of Farmingdale on the Southern Division, and in Oceanport as well.

FFW-1,
Yes the one I'm looking for is the one that supposely derailed and fell off the trestle.  If that is true it could be there but I believe the Matawan Creek is salt water which means its not worth trying to salvage.

Here is what the trestle looked like many years back.

The site south of Farmingdale was supposed to have been a clay pit. The water is only about 4-6 feet deep at best so the rumor seems to persist.
