Off to the right is Tarrytown Lighthouse, about 3.77 miles away. And that is the Tappan Zee Bridge behind it at 4.74 miles away. I'm glad I had a clear day, I just did not realize how clear. 6/1/16 @ 1927Hrs.

I was up at C-H this morning and photographed this FL-9 and the F-10 behind it.  They were both idling.  When I saw the sun shining directly on the face of this unit, I couldn't resist.

Thanks for the info, Dutch.  Here's another shot of No. 413 at South Norwalk.  They have been using P-40's on the Danbury Shuttle on weekdays, but on weekends, I have most often seen either an F-10 or a McGinnis-painted FL-9.

There's supposed to be a section of a Metro-North train from Grand Central to Stamford for excursion riders.

I plan to drive up to Hamilton and take NJT to NYP and the subway to GCT.  I never consider taking Amtrak since I have tendencies toward frugality.

Get those pictures fast guys the days are numbered for F units on MNCR.
MNCR/CDOT took delivery of 4 more P40's from Amtrak for Branchline and SLE service.
Last Sunday HHP-8 654 towed 836-838-841-834 from New Rochelle to New Haven.
Yesterday P40 833 did test trains witch cab car and is now in Harmon to have some changes made.
833 will probably go into Shuttle service on Waterbury within a week or two.

Here is Idea for P40 painting if MNCR decide to buy them, for now they will remain in Amtraks Willie the whale scheme

Jaap,
Are the LIRR's Pullman MP75's (Began life as MU's, later converted for push-pull operation-P75's) sisters to the ACMU1100's? Both Pullman products, and look very much alike. What differences, if any are there between the two designs?

The 213 has been named for over a year now, the name was originaly on engine 2013 but disapeared after it was repainted in NYC and given to DRM . the name is R.C.Kirners signature, the late Mr Kirner was ex Chief Mechanical officer and later Vice President Operations and responceble for rebuilding the fleet after the Penn Central/Conrail pilferage of commuter fleet.  his son Tom is a fellow locomotive engineer.

Re: Last trip for LIRR C1's on Island tomorrow - By Dutchrailnut on 02/23/04 at 07:40:34 - 'LIRR302rear.jpg' 100 KB
These cars run as married pairs with a drwbar in between the 2 cars and N2a couplers (no regular couplers) the control system is 32 volt instead off 65 volt so they could use standard m1/m3 parts.
Even the MU connections are non standard 48 pin instead of standard 27 point jumpers. also the cars are High level only and it would be impossible for anyone to get on or off without some kind of platform even in emergencies.
below see picture of LIRR 302 its N2a coupler and translater boxes on back of engine for 32/65 volt conversion.

nice shots, specialy last one.
I tried to take p[ictures last night when working in Harmon but the Mercury Vapour lights ruin your pictures as does the reflective tape on nose of M7's
the units are bare on sides with just MTA/Metro North logo and two American flags just behind the cab.
front has a blue band with reflective zebr stripes were the LIRR has the Yellow.
on fron only a small Metro North RR stencil at bottom right under the zebra stripes.

the M7's are MU cars for Harlem/Hudson made by Bombardier.
 AC traction by Mitsubishi
sorry I only got LIRR picture of these cars no MNCR pictures yet.
and the Third rail ends at mp54 on Harlem and mp 35 on Hudson.
with about 800 mu cars on MNCR the third rail does extend a bit beyond GCT

Aging rail cars causing concern for Metro-North - By Dutchrailnut on 09/23/03 at 10:29:14 - 'MNRR_Cosmos-PassingMillford.jpg' 137 KB
Aging rail cars causing concern for Metro-North
By John Christoffersen, Associated Press

STAMFORD Most of the trains were bought when President Nixon was
engulfed in the Watergate scandal. They run hundreds of miles per
day at speeds of up to nearly 100 mph.

The trains break down a lot. Occasionally they catch fire. The
bathrooms are notoriously smelly and sometimes the air conditioning
fails.

The New Haven line of Metro-North Railroad is the nation's busiest,
bringing 110,000 commuters to their jobs in New York and Connecticut
every day. The rail service, which is experiencing steady increases
in ridership, is considered a vital alternative to gridlocked
highways.

But the 380-car New Haven line fleet includes 241 cars purchased
between 1972 to 1975. Officials are trying to squeeze another decade
of life out of the trains by replacing critical parts. The $149
million program began earlier this year and is expected to take
several years.

"We have a fleet that is old, breaking down and it is under
substantial pressure from increased demands," said Harry Harris,
chief of public transportation for the Connecticut Department of
Transportation.

The state is conducting a study to be completed in the spring
with the aim of eventually buying a new fleet and maintenance
facility with a combined cost of more than $1 billion.

Officials are trying to figure are what type of cars to buy; one
option under study involves double-decker trains. They don't know
yet how the new fleet will be funded.

Commuter advocates and train officials are increasingly anxious
about the existing cars.

"It's time to put them out to pasture," said Jim Cameron, vice
chairman of the Connecticut Metro-North Rail Commuter Council, a
watchdog group. "The cars are so old and in such a state of
disrepair that on any given day 15 percent of the fleet is in the
shop for repairs."

That means trains often show up short of cars, causing more crowding
as a growing number of commuters must stand, Cameron said. The
repair program is moving too slowly to keep up with new problems, he
said.

"We're sending contradictory messages," Cameron said, noting that
officials have been encouraging mass transit but not investing
enough money.

Shelley Houser said she frequently stands during her commute from
Fairfield to her job in Stamford. She said she doesn't mind the age
of the trains as long as they are on time "and no one opens the
bathroom door."

Just then a fellow passenger opened the dreaded door.

"Darn it," she said.

Bill Sayles, who takes the train from Milford to his job in
Westport, also brought up the bathrooms. He said it's time for new
trains.

"You can fix it so many times. Then eventually it becomes obsolete,"
Sayles said.

The state Transportation Strategy Board, which was formed in
response to the congestion crisis, has recommended to lawmakers that
new rail cars be purchased as quickly as possible. Rail cars are
among several projects the board must prioritize to determine how to
spend transportation funds set aside by the legislature.

Metro-North spokesman Dan Brucker agreed the New Haven fleet needs
to be replaced.

"We are running out of time," Brucker said. "The average age of the
New Haven fleet is the oldest on our system. More and more customers
are using older equipment which is requiring more and more time out
for major repairs."

Cameron said Connecticut officials won't pay attention until someone
gets injured in one of the electrical fires. He predicted some
commuters will eventually get fed up and move out of state if the
fleet is not replaced.

"No one in Hartford has taken this issue seriously," Cameron
said. "I know we had budget problems. But we're also losing the
people as taxpayers if they're forced to stand and pay $300 per
month for the privilege."

Harris pointed to the program to replace critical parts and said
officials are spending about $300 million to replace overhead wires
on the tracks.

"He knows as well as I do that that we are fiscally constrained and
we are doing everything we can to fix up the system," Harris
said. "Clearly it is a major challenge."

so how do you tow MU's - By Dutchrailnut on 09/06/03 at 23:32:22 - 'P1010009.jpg' 251 KB
here is a picture of Compromise coupler mounted on each Metro North pair.
it fits in the N2a coupler and lets a locomotive couple up to the cars.
a few air valves have to be set and the cars will brake just like freight cars.

the overpass  in far distance is over fleetwood station were a third track terminates on right. some shuttle trains originate there in morning.
a road bridge beween Bronxville and fleetwood also had to be replaced for third track since old bridge was only two and barely at that.
