Where once New York depended on the West Shore RR to bring it mail and food supplies today most everything comes into the city today by truck.  This complex was built in the eighteen hundreds and saw most of its activity during the peak period of the 1920's.  The rail yards and marine facilities came to life once again during WWII.  Transportation from the terminal to rest of Hudson County was by trolley and later by bus from the shed pictured here. Railway Express operated a large part of the train yard in the left of this 1958 photo by Carl Larson.  There were some small shops that offered workman's clothing, flowers and liquor for those who commuted to New York City.  Inside the terminal the Union News Company operated a newsstand.
