The first problem I need to over come is logistics. The boiler is still at work, the chassis is at Bob's house, the tender is at the BCRR and many of the doo dads and thing-a-ma-jiggy's are at my house. Tough to make shop time this way.

Right now i am trying to decide how much get's undone before i can start the conversion. As soon as I start making chips i'll post some progress pic's.

The new to do list:

finish and install boiler...duh
install new ash pan
new cab & cab floor
new water plumbing
add smoke box bracing per prototype.
wire headlight
convert valve gear to Baker
move main driver from middle axle to rear axle per prototype.
revamp tender for coal burning duties.
make and install new jewelry and gingerbread per prototype.

wish list:
add an injector
add a Worthington pump, dummy would look cool, but working would be awesome.

My little engine shares parking space with some beautifully detailed locomotives. I want her to look and act like she belongs in the same company.

Bobby,
To misquote a mutual friend, "Don't hang the jewelry on her until she's sorted out." I can't wait to see this engine.

****UPDATE*****

After a lot of measuring and figuring, I have come to the conclusion that the amount of work and time involved with changing over the valve gear is not practical. It was hoped that only the main and eccentric rods would need to be remade. But in reality I would have had to make new yokes and guides as well as the originals are not long enough to put the Baker frame in the proper spot. So.... I am keeping the Walshaerts (sp) in tact.

I am still building a new cab and cab floor as well as re-plumb everything.

Today Roscoe and I set the new boiler onto the chassis to check fit. IT IS PERFECT!

Bob started to weld the spacer bands around the shell. Next week we locate the domes. The plan is to weld a couple 5/8 nuts on the boiler shell. One under each sand dome. then we can screw in an eyelet and use the overhead hoist to lift the boiler on and off.

Rock on, Bobby! The Baker would have been nice, but I understand your reasoning. Maybe on the next go 'round.

A quick update. sorry no pictures though. I keep forgetting the camera. I made a new cab floor and floor mounts. Now the arduous task of plumbing. I made a new steam manifold and I am rearranging where some appliances go so i am not reusing the old plumbing. A brandy new Bob Dean water glass is being installed as well as a "British" style injector that someone had given me. That will give me 4 ways to add water. Axle Pump, Injector, Electric Pump and the ever faithful last resort Hand Pump.

Update: Insulation is on, next step is the jacket.

The gentleman standing next to me is Roscoe. He is currently building a one of a kind 4 cylinder Heisler and a full string of log disconnects.

Bobby - looking good!

I was checking the photo just to be sure a lead and trailing truck weren't added (in case you confused a couple of your projects).  Keep up the great work as well as the updates with photos.  Remember only 6 months away for the 2013 Unmeet!!!!

Happy Steaming,

   Friends,

In the middle of getting back into the swing of things at the BCRR, and unloading the new "steamheaton" made ash box, Pete and I made a little side trip over to Bob Deans shop.

Bobby T. was there working on plumbing his 0-6-0. Which looks real nice with the boiler sitting on the frame in it's final position. Even I can't wait to see this engine under steam with a coal fire in it's firebox.

Bobby, I have plenty of coal !!!!!!!!!!

This is 2 weeks old. As of yesterday, the cab sides are on and 75% of the cab plumbing is done. Getting closer. I'd be lost with out Bob's assistance.
