   Bobby,

I totally forgot that Unka B. had that (lawn mower). Is he letting you build into the track a little "elbow room" between the heads of the rail?
I sure hope so. Otherwise his "tea pot" will have problems in the curves.
Oh, hell, you know that !!!!!!!!!!!!

   Your workmanship really looks nice.

Man it has been frosty out there in the mornings. But I have gotten the track tamped, leveled and ballasted all the way to the first bridge. Mike has got another 100'+ of rail screwed down as well. We are well past the half way point on phase one.

Bruce: 7 9/16 on the straights, 7 5/8 on the curved sections (with a little super elevation as well).

Bobby,

Are you using a laser level to raise the track to its final grade or by eye with a stringline?

Rob, strictly by eye. A laser level won't work unless the terrain you are building on is flat from front to back. Since the terrain undulates I have to transition the track grade up and down smoothly with it.

I finally have some up dated photos. Since I had gotten past the long straight into the curve leading onto the narrow causeway between two of the ponds, I had to turn to using a rock train to haul the ballast since the Kubota wouldn't fit with the track in place. So Mike and I jumped back to the engine lead track which goes the closest to the ballast pile.

Here is a great angle of the first bridge. It is only partially complete but strng enough to run over as is. There are about 5 or 6 more trestle bents that need to be installed along with the cross bracing and walkways along side of the track.

Here is the causeway trackage after ballasting. Camera compression makes it appear that there is a big dip in the track. Actually it is very slight and over a large area.

This is the first abutment of the second bridge. As of this posting the track has been laid up to this point and ballasted to within 50 feet of this. Which will be complete by lunch on Monday (tomorrow). The second abutment has already been poured. Unfortunately the bridge builders under estimated the speed of the track layers so we don't have a bridge....yet. from the 2nd abutment to the point where i started this project is only 500'!  It won't be too long and we will be able to go a complete circuit. Next phase will be the yard area.

The track then swings to the west along the south side of the property. A crossing is installed to allow for the tractor to gain access to back section of the property. A future phase has trackage expanding into that.....wilderness.

Man, you need to pat yourself on the back. You've accomplished so much in a really short space of time. And it looks GREAT.
