I am posting this thread as an ongoing progress update on the building of a new private track. The owner has asked me to build him a 1500' test loop around his property. He did start putting down some shell fill roadbeds, so I don't have that much ground prep. Here is a short tour of the property as I found it on the first day. track will consist of steel rail on plastic ties with granite gravel imported from Georgia.
The first shot is the location of where the turntable and steaming bays will be.

This shot shows where the scissor lift/transfer table will be. Doesn't look like much now.

Looking from the turntable, looking out to the yard area. There will be a water tower in the center area near the stack of ties on the left. The main line will run along the far left edge of the yard. The engine lead will run along the right side.

This view is looking at the yard from where the Main line comes into the yard.

Further to the right of the main line is a secondary main line that runs along the East side of the property. To clarify, the front of the property is the South end. This photo shows where the secondary main and the yard main reconnect at the south end of the yard. Just further around the curve, the engine lead willreconnect as well.

This shot is along the main across the south end of the trackage. the fill hasn't been put in yet here but you can see the marks showing where the engine lead reconnects to the main in the area of the PVC pipe. The track continues through the little palmettos then curving to the right will go behind the dirt pile, across the access road (other side of boat) and then through the area occupied by the log pile. Since this photo was taken late yesterday. we have moved the log pile and placed and graded the fill on the far side of the access road. We (young man named Trey & I) also started putting fill in the area shown in the photo. And like my track laying mentor Bruce R.....I forgot my camera today.

Then we continue along the west side of the property towards the northern end.

Here we just past the barn and still going along the west side. The path converging from the right is actually going to be another part of the main line. The two tracks will be side by side for a short distance and will be opposing traffic.

Here is a view of that other track section going behind the barn. This will connect with the yard main just before the yard.

Further along the west side but looking back towards the barn. The other track will go off to the left of this photo. There is a pond between the photographer and the barn. There are 3 ponds that need to be negotiated around but that adds to the fun.

Facing north again and continuing on. Those are cat-tails ahead. the track will curve to the right just in front of them.

Once we make the curve to the right, we are now on an 8' wide causeway separating 2 of the ponds.

At the east end of the causeway we have a deep ravine that will need to be bridged.

Once on the east side of the property we are pretty much in the wide open spaces. There is an abundance of big oak trees covered in Spanish moss.

Going along the east side we come to the spot where the track that is to go behind the barn will split off here and go off to the right while the main will go straight.

Now here I missed the actual spot where the track going behind the barn crosses back over to the west side of the property. It will cross just to the left of the cabbage palm tree on the left edge of the picture. Another deep ravine behind the tree will have to be bridged.

Back on the east side main heading south. It appears that this is a large drainage area during storms and is about 2 feet lower than the roadbed so I am figuring a nice low curved trestle here.

The yard main will split off of the east side main but I am not sure where yet, but here it is as it approaches the yard. The track behind the barn is coming in from the right.

Bobby,
Those are interesting pictures. Are you going to post a drawing to corrispond to the pictures? Looks like you have your work cut out for you.
