Getting ready to head out, changing ties.  A never ending job on the SR&CL Ry.

Fired up #7 to test systems. Had issues with the new air compressor again.  It stopped pumping air after about an hour of use!  Back to the work bench!

Weeellll, the thread does say building and fixin things...never a dull moment on a railroad like the SR&CL!!  Sorry to hear that the first fix didn't take, but good luck on the second!  Will be in Michigan towards the end of this month, but it will be a quick trip.  In a couple of years I will be retired and able to amble the state(making sure I visit the SR&CL of course).

This trip, I want to get my Fox truck project completed and get the Ford Model T chassis into a rolling chassis.  Plenty of things to do in the shop.  Be sure and tell the gang "hi" for us!

The bridge on the steepest grade (I refer to it as the Mountain Division) needed new ties as rot has set in.  Of course, the humidity was way up there to make the day miserable.

The old trestle ties were Nailed into the big ties so cut them out with a reciprocating saw and ground off the stubs so the new ties would sit flat.

Jack holding up old Big ties.  He said hurry, ants crawling up arm!

You can see the new bulkhead boards and posts we put in.  Digging the hole for the posts was a real task as there was Clay and ROCKS to go thru!

Tom:  Say 'Hi' to Jack for us.  Hard work is the stuff of great railroads...SR&CL is all of that!  Good to see the work continue.

I have a question, what code is needed to use flickr as a third party photo site?  Since I've had a Flickr account for years(never used it), may have to resort to it.   Kindda wished Henry had a place to park train-railroad related photos for use in the threads.  I'd certainly be willing to park all my pics there.

There are at least two problems with a RR in the woods, one, Leaves in the fall and two, trees across the tracks after a good wind or heavy snow.  Well we got hit again on the CBE branch.  One big Oak came down and brought two others with it.  The main trunk that came down and took out some neighbors.  Down under the end is the middle level of the switchback for the branch.  More pics to follow.

After much more cutting, we found most the track!  Not to much damage that new ties won't take care of.  It doesn't look bent which is GOOD!

We have been working on the trees as time permits and got all the small limbs off and ready for our friend Tim R to come over with his big saw and start chopping the trunk.  This is his handy work on last Sunday.

He wasn't wore out from cutting up the trunk, so tackled the sister tree that went down last year over the CBE Branch to open the branch once again to the top of the hill.  You can see the remains of the trunk of its sister.
