That looks like quite a workout!  Well done. Good to hear there's some diverting above so it shouldn't happen again.

Bobby and All:  Just returned from a visit to Pockets a couple of weeks ago.  Pockets' SWMBO has suffered ill-fortune and is terminal.  This much, most of you have known.  He (and she) is ever-so-thankful for your continued thoughts and friendship.  Just before I left to be with them, she was in the hospital...the family did not expect her to return home.  Your good thoughts and prayers as well as many others have done what I once thought couldn't happen.  She's now home, not on morphine at the moment and getting stronger.  It will take some time for her to regain strength, until then, Pockets and family must tend her 24/7.  She is terminal, how long this good fortune continues is anyone's guess.

This is the biggest reason that many of you haven't heard from them.  Those of you who have deal with major illness's know that certain choices have to be made.  Until such time, Pockets will be not be found via internet.    They do maintain a landline and I will make it available to you on the back channel.  As many of you know, being a caregiver is never ending and overly tiring.  SWMBO understands this and urges Pocket's friends to call and have a short conversation with him....his shot in the arm.

My SWMBO and I have offered an incentive for Pocket's SWMBO to work hard at gaining strength.  She was told that if she could stand...assisted or unassisted for 25 mins, we would take them on a cruise.  She loves cruises.  She was told it would be March of 2017, but given the circumstances, we will do it sooner if need be.  I know that she's going to work hard at rehab, so if anyone wishes to join us (usually spring break), please let me know back channel.  Truth be told, we will take them on a cruise whether she can stand or not.  The real test is if her doctor will let her got or not.

Tom:  Aside from the answer above, Pockets thinks about you, Jack and Mel a lot and wishes he could visit, but under the current circumstances, can only send his best wishes to you.

Henry:  My apologies for a personal post, but I figured all would like an update.

Nothing much of interest is happening on the SR&CL.  We are changing ties and I am working in the roundhouse on #7 & #10 trying to get them back under steam as Mel has had enough of us and is staying home.  #10 needs the water glass plumbed in on the upper side and a hydro to see if it is safe.  #7 needs paint on the tender and a coal bunker built.  Being I am more of a shade tree mechanic, I am struggling where Mel would breeze thru!   Live Steam is fun!

The latest update:  I have been working away on #7 finishing up the water glass install,  finding where the half glass was on the gauge and a coal bunker for the cab.  This past Monday I went to light a fire to start testing systems and found there were no grates in the firebox when I was about to throw some wood in.  I looked all around but found none so had to make new!

Maybe this Monday she will feel a fire in her belly again!

Back at it again.  The wife was feeling poor so I stayed home like a good husband does so #7 had to wait till this Monday for her steam test.  All went well with only a leaky check vale on the left injector to look at and the pop went off at 90 instead of 100.  Back in the the roundhouse for more work.

Cleaned the check and made a test rig to set the safety on air.  I found I was pretty close as it opened at 99 PSI on the main gauge.  Had trouble with the Cylinder Cocks as they wouldn't open so no road test.  Had a leaky Tri-Cock that needs to be looked at but all in all she is coming together.

Oh and one other note, Jack found the original grates in the car barn!  Never thought to look there.  Now we have a spare set.

Well, something new happened on our RR.  Jack needed to get some track on the east side of the trestle to access new fire wood.  The quickest way was to extend the Bauerton Branch about 50 feet to get about 2 cars over to that side.  We worked yesterday putting it down and today tamping in the ties. It was hot and humid but we got it DONE!  Some pictures from the day.

#4, new track done at end of branch.  Some of the wood awaits us by the left side of the trestle opening.

We use gravity to move the cars with the engine cut off and moved down out of the way.  Here Jack is waiting for me to come and help.

When we got tired of tamping, I went down to Clear Lake and did some digging in the TT pit as the rain brought sand in again!

the other side of the track was full of leaves that slowed down drainage so that will be my next job for tomorrow.

Here it is cleaned out.  I had to use a pitch fork to get the wet leaves out.  Got a nice blister as I forgot my gloves! Old age is a bit**.  The bottom of the ditch is sand so the water drains away as long as the leaves are gone.  It doesn't need to flow much farther to get rid of the water from the TT pit.  When it dries out, I will dig out some of the dirt that comes down the bank to help the water disperse.
