Jack has been busy cutting up the big tree that fell on the CB&E branch now that the snow is gone.

Now that's something you don't see on other tracks.....a big dipper .   Looks like a lot of work to fix that, what a way to start the season!

Or just leave it and convert the RR to a roller coaster!

Interesting idea guys but won't fly!  Jack has both bad rails unbolted. Lucky that it hit in the middle and not on an end at a joint. He has re-graded the ground and is ready to put in two sticks of rail as soon as he takes up 2 off the temporary extension we put in last fall.  We have no reserve on rail any more!

Can the bent rails be straightened cold under a hydraulic press? Or, maybe they would need to be heated first.

Maybe it could be straightened enough to reuse but it is a lot of work to move a 30 ft stick of rail around and try to get it back to straight.  It had a twist and the bend to deal with.  He took the chop saw to one of the rails and cut out the most bent part.  Now he has two pieces of rail instead of one!  The other one was still on the ground out in the woods when I went home.

Spring is in the air so that means tie replacement starts on our RR.  Boy am I sore from bending and tamping!

Looking at those cuts in the fallen tree, I'd say you'll be hauling firewood soon.
The forest looks lovely in green. Pete

Pete,  not to soon as we can't lift the tree and Jack doesn't want the chain on the saw touching dirt!  Gets dull real quick if it does.  We need a Jib crane to lift it.  Will try driving wedges and breaking off the last bit.

One of our friends donated a pair of Dewalt drills to our track.  We use one to take out old screws from rotted ties which saves firing up the genny till time to put in the new ones.  After that, we ballasted and then we trimmed trees or cut down dead ones near the track.  Enjoyed the cool day!

We decided to make the plunge and get bigger air compressors for our 3 steam engines.  We originally had 2,2.5 scale ones of a 9 inch pump.  We got castings from Mike V of Little Engines which are more like 3 in scale and had them built for us by Steve Alley.

Mel has been busy upgrading #7 as it never had air.  Here is a shot of the compressor mounted on the boiler.  Luckily, Jim planned ahead and had the pads on the boiler to attach it.

Here is a shot of the rear truck brake.  The black blob on the right is the cylinder.

June has been a rainy month here in Michigan.  The RR has suffered a major wash-in at Clear Lake.  Here we are clearing the sand over the track.  Next is digging out the TT pit.  Plus mosquito's are super thick after all the rain!

The mud in the pit.  It is up to the bottom of the stringer.  We hope the bearing is salvageable!

It took 13 loads of muck to finally get the TT free.  It moved easily and the bearing was ok!  I had Jack build a dam and diverting ditch above it so we hope it won't get much water in the future.
