With the battery for the power seat perhaps you can come up with a set of working marker lights.  LEDs would use almost no power.

Nice job guys.......

Rick,

That is our next shop project.  We made casting for some and have to machine and assemble.  We probably will use double A's and LED's as they will fit inside and not require wiring out the side to make work.

I'm sure I missed something earlier, but how does the brakeman operate the brakes!

Steen,
If George posts the picture, I'll skin 'im, 'cause he went to Battle Creek without me!   Could you possibly mean Tom?

Fred,  You may have missed the brake lever as it was the last thing done on the inside.  You can see it here in the picture with the red paint on it.  It peeks out when the hand brake is on!  Plus the black rubber is down on the floors.   I did some shopping!

Rick, this is for you, a pile of pieces for our marker lights.  Mel started to machine up one to see what it will take to make them.

Oh, that red lever,  doh I was expecting a scale westinghouse at least !!!!

I am planning remote controlled electric / air brakes in my van, but now I might put a manual control for my brakeman when he's on duty.

Steen, that is our pounding and vice table.  Very cluttered but sturdy!  Our welding table is smaller!

Steen,
Generous offer on your part.  Will I have to bring welder or can borrow yours?    Have passport can travel!  Will the custom agent alert you when I come thru customs?  You will need a small amount of warning to clean a spot for me!  I can't call before hand as no overseas cell service.

Tom - If you turn up there will be a welder and a spot cleared.
Do not worry about customs, if you got your papers OK.

Well, there is life yet on the Sandy Ridge, I hope the rest on the forum are busy and can post some news!   We have been in the foundry making brake shoes and now putting them on our trucks. Box car 158 was first as it has derailed every once and a while on bad track.  We think it needed more clearance on the side bearings.  I noticed when we took it out from under the car, the swing motion was frozen.  We took the springs out and replaced with a softer one.  This freed it up and gave us swing motion again.  Side bearings were ok after that.  A shot of the new shoe

One problem I found when trying to replace the shoes was the swing links for the brake beam hit the frame on the inside where it dropped down to clear the coupler pocket. We had to narrow it by 1/4 inch on each side.  More cutting and welding was need on each truck to get the shoes to move to the wheel.  A shot of the reworked piece.

Hi Fred,

Jack wants an excursion car so we may do that.  CLL #4 needs a new cab.   Mel wants to convert short caboose 560 into an 8 wheel bobber for the logging line.  Build a center cupola caboose.   I want another passenger car or baggage/combine.  We are working on finishing another pair of passenger car trucks.  We need axles and then the wheels pressed on and paint.   To many projects!
