#7 pulls a train out of the pass and prepares to back up the main to get a helper cut in.  It will take two engines to hoist those loads up to Woodshill.

Sorry I missed the Un-Meet.   We had to dig out from a snow storm on Feb.22.

Since I am now a "shop rat", I don't get to be engineer to much anymore.  This last weekend that changed as I got to run #25 again.  We were haulin wood.  A shot out of the cab as we were pushing 3 loads and a rider gon up the hill just west of Sumac.  I had her notched out to get a run at the grade.  It gets above 5% up ahead.

I brought one more down the hill so had a nice train strung out behind me.  Made a mailbox stop at the main road crossing and grabed this shot.

After the Oak trees drop all/most of their leaves,  We need to get the "big blow" out to find the ROW again.  Here is a shot of us clearing the ROW.  Jim Small is holding the nozzle and I am riding in the gon with the rake at ready to push a big pile over the side if necessary.  Pic by JNO

Pulled the same leaf clearing trick last month on the 2 foot gauge C.P. Huntington park train. I sat on the pilot (barely fit) and another fella ran the engine. Overall, it worked out pretty well.

We can easily run with leaves on the track but a few rain drops will hold those wet leaves on the rails for days not to mention running over the leaves crushes them leaving an oily film on the rails. Just one extra thing I wanted to do. Our line is 100% uphill on the return trip and getting up that hill with 5 fully loaded passenger cars with wet leaves on the rails is something I wasn't going to do!

I should also mention that I would be climbing (barely) up that hill at NIGHT in the middle of the woods with a fully sold out Halloween train plus many more sold out trains waiting to leave!

Another reason I like to have the leaves off is that they hold moisture on the ties and promote ROT!

I hope no one greases your rails at Halloween!!!!  Be careful out there!     Leaves do leave an oily residue on the rail head if run over.  Another reason to blow them away.
