Tom,
Would love to come see your operation sometime. I'm retiring early next year so maybe will have time to come up that way during the summer.

Hi Dan,  Would love to show you around.  PM me if u r headed our way.  While running the plow around, Jack showed us this tree that will need to be cut up next spring.  Bring Axe!

Wanna swap for a couple of days, Tom?
My thermometer registered 114 degrees twice in two days. Crazy world.
Hope thats not track under the tree trunk.

Pete, yes it is rail under the tree.  It has a big bend in it.  You can see the ties are above the snow.  Luckily it is a branch line.

114 is a little much!  -16F yesterday morning.  Roads a mess.   I think I hate that more!  Stay cool.

Holy cow, that is a big tree. When I was building Bob Deans track, I had to remove a dead pine tree that was maybe 1/2 that diameter. I managed to drop the tree on the mainline and it tore up a good 10' section, bending the steel rail like a twist tie!

More snow came down so we tried plowing.  I say tried as it was so deep, the large chunks rolled back down the bank and got under the wheels and caused traction loss even with sand on! (I think they were plugged already).  Here is a shot of Paul manning the shovel to get us out of the Rhouse.

Here we are heading back to where we stalled last after clearing the sand lines on #25.

It is Bobby.  We ended up waiting till Sunday to plow again and by then the level was much lower.  We found in deep snow not to put the wings out and just use the plow blade when it is deep as it presents the smallest face to the snow pack.  The plow sliced thru to Woodshill with out a problem.  We then back down and put the wings out and widen the sides.

After lunch we tackled the line to Clear Lake but derailed the plow in a small cut when Jack tried to backup before clearing the snow.  That end of the line is embargoed still!

A shot when done for the day

It has been sometime since we used the RR to haul wood.  We ran a train to haul wood from Clear Lake to the woodshed.

Hi BobbyT, Yes the door is a roller and comes off easily for Summer as does the door by the fuel pump.  It doesn't like hot days so letting the hot air out helps the fuel pump and me when I am the engineer!  #25 is a stout engine and can handle that load up the 5% as long as the track is dry.

Not much snow this year.  The plow has only been out twice so far.  Here we stopped to clear the ice out of the flange ways at the driveway before we cross.  We ran up the hill and cleared the main and the branch.  Then we turned it and headed to Clear Lake.  See next post for what we ran into.

When we got to the yard limits, it became clear we wouldn't reach Clear Lake!

An over view.  A tree above the tree in the foreground came down and placed to much pressure on the one nearest town.  Jack will have a bunch of firewood when both are cut up.

With the snow gone, we have to deal with the leaves left over from the fall.  Out came the leaf blower and we cleaned out the cuts.  Here is a shot at the driveway while Jack picked up his mail.
