[quote author=ErieAtlantic7597 link=board=LiveSteam;num=1214703268;start=80#98 date=11/13/10 at 06:22:39]  , and me spending the last forty winters here in SW Flroida, the snow, cold and me just don't get along real good.

I bet you would have a nice time up in the snow and cold.  We have a nice stove in the Rhouse to warm an old softy from Florida up with even if he has used 40 years to avoid cold and snow.  Look at Greg,  He can do it, even Moose went up to Michigan in the winter.  You could help us dig out the Rhouse after a big one if you time it right.

I hope no one greases your rails at Halloween!!!!  Be careful out there!     Leaves do leave an oily residue on the rail head if run over.  Another reason to blow them away.

Tom C.

Only Jack@@s (easy folks, kids you know)greasing track is me. Curves only on the outside rail usually at joints only. Gotta save them wheels and those ears! No grease and we'll have worn out wheels and ears pretty quick.

Now that I think of it, I shouldn't be greasing track. Put to much on once and couldn't even get the engine to run light out of the station/shop complex. Just sat there slipping....woops...

We had a real nice Sunday in November to run steam so we fired up #7 and hauled some wood and then passengers in the afternoon.

It has been a while since steam has turned a wheel on this RR while I was around.  I heard rumers a Shay was out and about but I saw no proof!  It must have been ordained that steam was to be up across america last weekend as the Sandy Ridge got dumped on [heavy rain] this past Thursday so we could participate like Florida.  Jim Small & Jim Parker were down for a visit so I fired up # 7 for their pleasure.  This pic shows it warming up by the roundhouse while Mel and Jim S. chat.

Jack put the boys to work hauling wood.  Here is a shot of 2 loads and the rider gon at Phelps.  Later we would stall on the grade to Woodshill as the sanders were pluged.  It seems the hostler forgot to check and got some demerrits for sloppy work!

With the release of #559 from the shops, It needed a test ride so it went out with Alina and #25 to see how it would track.  Did fine!

Tom, Jack & Mel, congratulations on a terrific build. Can't wait to see it, up close and personal.

BTW, I found brake rigging clevices for $4.00 a copy. 1/4" 28tpi.

Greg, we have few as we stocked up.  Can't remember for sure but think we got them from Fastenal.

Anyhow, here is the other side at Highpoint.  Mel's knee is sticking out the door.  His first ride.  He liked it.  So will you. Get over soon!

Mel got the marker lites together and working and I got the brackets on the caboose.  Here is a pic of #559 with the markers on and our marker light brackets on it.  The final touch for us.

This seems as good a place as any to express our gratitude to the guys at the SR&CL. They entertained and educated the brass hats of the Clam Lake & Moose Meadows consortium last Saturday. Train rides were offered, but, regretably declined. George and I had made the trek to visit with friends and continue our education in 3-3/4" scale. Jack had some other things going on, but Tom and Mel were the consumate hosts. Ol' Moosey and I were able to see, touch, caress and fondle all manner of wood and metal. At the same time Tom and/or Mel would be explaining the reasons and methods involved in the production process. These guys are both genuine "Shop Rats" and wicked smart.

The Sandy Ridge is so subtle in it's surroundings. It is almost entirely in forest, however, the railroad blends so well that the railroad and it's setting would seem incomplete if either one was missing.

I stood in the turntable pit and looked towards Phelps. Having worked my way up through most of the smaller scales, I'm always looking for the tattle tale giveaways that reveal the model. With the exceptions of a ricketty chair and a most comfortable bench, there are none. This could very well be a 2ft gauge logger, typical of the Cadillac or Mio areas of Michigan.

Thank you, again, for your hospitality,
Greg B.

Happy Holidays to all,  We do run some trains once and a while.  Today we hauled wood.  A shot from the Rhouse roof as I was up there to help get a pine tree off that broke off in the ice storm.

The errant pine tree!  And it froze to the roof.  Luckily it was 37 or so degrees today so I Yanked & Yanked and got most of it loose before Jack took it off with the tractor and a rope!
