Hello,  This thread will be about the engines and cars we use on the trains and how we use them.  I have had a digital camera only since 12-2004 so don't have a full history to share of the early times.  The RR goes back to 1993 when it first started and I found it in the spring of 1994 when I put my first work into track laying.   Back then, we had only a flat car to play with but things grew after that and we now have a big stable of engines and cars with over 1 mile of mainline and probably that much in branch line trackage.  We try to have operating sessions with train order and timetable rules, as that is Jack's big interest, at least once a year.  Some of the last few years we have been able to do more than one and is a busy day and lots of fun.

Lets go back to 2004 and a picture of me in our Shay #4 on the turntable at Phelps with Jack turning it.   This engine is on loan to us from Mike Allen and is fun to run.  It was a 12 inch gauge engine and we made new trucks for it.  Jack saw it run at the late Harold Allen's house and put his mind into gear to build his own outdoor RR to haul firewood.  This is how the RR started.

I like this shot by Mel Caswell (alis John Korstange) of the little train on the branch.  Jack has his butt planted on a load of wood that will go to the woodshed at Woodshill.  The conductor is waving along with me.

We run a lot in winter to avoid forest fires.  Here in Jan 05, #7 has backed away from a mishap that I was helping to fix and I grabbed this shot.  More on mishap comin'

The brakeman was riding the corner of the car and not in the middle and it derailed going thru a curve.  It broke the lower spring plank and we fliped it on it's side to roll in another flat to take it back for repair.  We were using Red Oak for spring planks and I have since read that this is a bad choice as it has a loose grain, White Oak is suppose to be better choice of the two.  There are a lot of holes drilled thru these which doesn't help either.

Loaded up and ready for the trip to the shop.  438 was our oldest flat and had the oldest wood in the trucks.

Our new lubricator I got.   We were having to much trouble trying to keep the old hydrostatic adjusted to not flood the cylinders or starve them.  This meters so much better.  We put a heating element under it to keep from freezing and that works sweet.

Some days it is a chore to get the wood into the wood shed.  Mother Nature adds beauty to the forest with a coating of white.

May 2005 was an outdoor operating session with Timetable and Trainorders.  We were able to have 3 engines under steam and #25 participate.  Some pics from that day.
