It is amazing to see a group of people get together and do what you guys are doing.  How many engines are you guys building?

Brian,

So it started out as 5 or 6, then we added a couple more.  Well, one thing led to another and we are in the process of building ten 10-wheelers.  We are in our 4th year of building and still having fun.  I can tell that I have gained some wonderful friendships from the build that was not planned.

What started as a desire to have a steam locomotive has turned into much more.  We have a great bunch of guys (a total of six of us, plus a few youngens) who are gifted and talented machinists.  The best thins is that they are more the willing to share their knowledge.  I have learned so much, but know so little.  I can't speak for eveybody, but Jeff D. has been a great unofficial leader of our group.  With his giudance, we have already achieved a lot.  The whole bunch of guys are great.  Bruce the smaller often talks about true live steam gentlemen, and I can tell you that this build has allowed me to expereince that first hand.

Some work days are not much more that a glorified bull session, while others, chips are flying everywhere.  I can tell you that each time we get together, progress is made and we have fun.

Happy Steaming!

Don

With the 2012 UnMeet over we have renewed energy to continue our quest in improving our machining skills and eventually completing a number of Ten-Wheelers.  Ralph deburring journal blocks.

Mechanical engineers build weapons, whereas civil engineers build targets.

When the man at the door said," Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms", I, naturally assumed it was a delivery!

Prior to PapaSmurf arriving last Sunday we did make more progress on our Ten-Wheeler Project.  These pics reflect what is really great about this hobby.
