Hi guys,

Wow, I'm really impressed with all of these videos.  Now that Bruce can upload video to the cumputer, we should be seeing some awesome clips of the BCRR, and other 1 1/2 inch scale tracks that other members here visit.  Hope to see more clips soon.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for the PM, I appreciate your concerns.

The trestle looks good. I also noticed your reference to the sliced two by fours as your RR ties. I assume you are using outdoor white pine lumber, but I also am curious on how you are protecting them, long term. Are you vacuum impregnating them with a preservative, such as Creosote ? I believe I once mentioned that the Los Angeles Live Steamers vacuum impregnated all their RR ties with Creosote. Those ties are built to last. I believe I also mentioned that I have considerable experience with vacuum impregnation, potting and encapsulation.

Hi Bruce,

In Southern California, we have at least as much heat as Florida, but NONE of that humidity. Makes a big difference. The LALS routinely treat their ties with creosote vacuum impregnation with an outdoor set up that would scare Frankenstein. However, it DOES work. All of their ties are creosote vacuum impregnated.  It is a messy job, and smelly as well, but necessary.

Tall Tale: I once got my hands on some crapped out RR ties, full scale. Had no use for them, except for FIREWOOD. Bad idea. One wintry day, I had cut up the RR ties and they were quietly cooking in the Fireplace, when I get a knock on the door, and there is the local Fire Department, four fellas strong, all inspectors demanding to inspect my fireplace. Seems the fella behind me, a real Yo Yo called them and complained about the black, smelly, smoke coming out of my chimney. After the Inspectors gave me a clean bill of health, they advised me not to burn old RR ties in the fireplace any more. I agreed, and it hasn't happened again, since that time. I wonder how you do get rid of old RR ties. That Creosote does produce lots of BLACK smoke, smelly too. But, it makes the house nice and warm.

Bruce wanted to combine some posts into a video post, but after looking around I decided it would be too disjointed to organize so that it would read in any coherent fashion.

I have done a quick search for his videos and here is what he has posted so far, in chronological order.

The Goose at Larry Smith's track in Manatee, FL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkAkR-w7h-k

The Atlantic REALLY PULLING Video:

Trestle work and stone work at the BCRR Sunday, Jan 7:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xy6rh_bridge-and-retg-walls-bcrr0001

Bruce,

I suggest that you periodically "Modify" your top post in this thread to create an index page of all your videos so folks don't have to crawl through this whole thread to find them all. I can put these links in there as a start, if you want me to.

Bruce,
I have about 10 more videos I'm going to post sooner or later. I need a good bit of free time since it takes a few minutes to upload these videos onto the internet. I may have a few months or weeks of free time on my hands if the MRI's show something seriously wrong with my knee. (school wrestling injury) But I will definatly try to get the rest of the videos onlie very soon.

All these videos are great, I'm so glad the Live Steam boards are blossoming these days. They're much more active then way back a few years ago.

I've really got to pay a visit to my local live steam club, the Pennsylvania Live Steamers. It's been years since I've been there, but I'm still a member. Next time I go, I promise I'll bring you guys a nice video to watch when I come back.

Once again, wonderful videos!
Joe...

Bruce,

Thanks for posting the video, I enjoy following the progress on the new trestle.

I don't know if others have the same problem I do with dailymotion.com, but even on my very fast connection it stops and starts several times while watching videos from thete. Google Video, YouTube and other sites seem to work better for me. I don't know if DailyMotion is overloaded or if their internet backbone routing/peering to our backbone connections isn't good. Because adobe/macromedia flash player isn't configurable to any useful degree (all the video sites force everyone to use the proprietary lousy flash player for video now, it's like a monopoly thing and a personal pet peeve) I can't adjust flash player's stream caching for only that site, I can only do it for ALL sites. In my opinion Google or YouTube are better sites for hosting video right now. I wish they had all adopted a different system for video, flash is a spam advertising magnet and the source for a lot of the annoying popup and sidebar ads on websites these days.

I don't want to be a complainer as I know how hard you have worked to be able to post video at all, but if I have problems with dailymotion, others may too.

Bruce, I guess I better get on the ball and start posting these links on a video page on the BCRR website! Great job, the videos really bring things to life.

   Guys,

For those that feel that I tell a "TALL' tail from time to time. This video should dispell that myth. I only write about things that I have actually done or expierienced myself.

This video was shot in Kennesaw, Ga. back in 2000. Mike K. and I were on the return leg of a trip to Nashville to get about a thousand pounds of cast iron parts for a N&W "J" in 1 1/2 inch scale.

We stopped to visit the "GENERAL" at the same place that used to be called Big Shanty. The video tells the rest of the story.

   Enjoy,
