And another of the same unit, this time more of a straight-on or "broadside" view. Same location, just west of Mexico, MO sometime in September 2007.

Re: Helm - By WVa_Jon on 03/03/16 at 21:37:01 - 'HLCX_1822.jpg' 27 KB
We've seen some solid maroon HLCX units off and on for the last couple of years in Jefferson City, MO on the UP's line. Here's the most recent one I've seen, HLCX 1822. This one is a GP38 derivative, headed east with perhaps a local freight--it was relatively short, at any rate, compared to the coal/stack/autorack trains that usually come through town.

I have seen several FURX units on the BNSF .  Most of them, like the one in this photo are in the BN paint scheme.  This picture was taken at about MP 2.5 on the Barstow Sub in Galesburg, IL on May 21, 2007.

Tho seemingly less common these days on CSX, leasers still make a fairly regular appearance... here, a former Quebec, North Shore & Labrador SD40-2 (now in Helm blue) brings up the rear on a light power move (CSX Q216) eastbound at Holmes PA.

Hello,
Here  is a GMTX(former UP) at the Oxnard, CA,. "yard".  It must be used as a switcher as is moved around throughout the week(though it does not run on Sundays when I can go the the rail "yard".  Oxnard is for the most part a series of siding with Amtrack the big customer there with the Surfliner running daily though Metrolink runs each day as well.

The thrice-weekly D&H train to Philly (symbol 30J while on NS rails) was once powered by a string of CP SD40-2s or Soo 60s... but these days two widecabs seem to do the job.  Here a Bluebird wide leads the train across the 'Junction Railroad' between CP Belmont (ex-Reading) and CP Zoo (ex-Pennsy) in Philly.

Here's GATX SD40-2 leading an HLCX SD40-2 with a long mixed freight train pass the Rapid station in East Cleveland. This train was mantaining a brisk 35mph in nitch 7 or 8. thats all we get thru East Cleveland from CollinWood are leasers pulling the freights while either UP units or CSX units pull da intermodel, piggy back and AutoRackers.

we get Conrails thru East Cleveland all the time. its just a matter of catching them thats the problem. Here's a marching line of 5 SD40-2s!!  One BNSF unit,2 leasers and 2 CSX units. an SD60 was the last one, running backwards. its out of the shot. odd part bout this, only the first three SD40s were running notch 8. they were all pulling a long mix freight pass superior Rapid Station at a slow 25mph.

No Cody, the only 6000 hp units here are the UP 7500's which are AC6000's which have not been derated.  The SD90mac's are rated at 4390 hp and the AC4400's are rated at 4400 hp.

As far as I know they seem to run fine.

This is how to tell the difference between an AC4400 and an AC6000.  The radiator flare is larger than on an AC4400, jetting out the rear of the carbody, otherwise they pretty much look the same.  Also the AC4400's have one exhaust stack and AC6000's have two.

Here is CEFX 3126 on the NS H74 rolling along the Portland Secondary near Martins Creek, PA. Even though 3126 is "a SD40-2 in an SD45 body", it is still great to see vestiges of the SD45 in the 21st Century

Here are a couple of my offerings for this thread.  Here in southeastern British Columbia we interchange with the UP at Eastport, Idaho and see CEFX units daily.  In fact there is usually one on every train.  Every once in a while we see older CEFX power but usually newer high horse power units are used. (AC4400cw and SD90mac)

This one is right on the international boundary, 1012 southbound and 108 northbound.

This unusual unit, a SD50M-3, has been making the rounds on CSX. It started life as an ATSF unit, and is the result of  making a whole unit from some "pieces parts". Shown here on 03-15-05 leading BNSF 6921 on Q249 at Niles,Ohio. The colors are the remains of a DM&E scheme.

After having been "hijacked" by NS for over a month & finally heading for home rails, DRGW SD40T-2 5401 leads NS 391 through Memphis, TN on December 6, 2003.

Anyway, under the glare it says "Southern Pacific" in white letters. The rest you can make out if you look close...

I found 2 EMDX units in storage in Vernon BC, under a road overpass.

They are being stored for the leasing company by Kelowna Pacific, a shortline in southern British Columbia, on leased CN track.

What are these units?  Obviously Geeps......  one yard crew member said they have 3000 hp.  However, I wasn't sure where to look for info on the carbodies......

Here are 4 lashed up on the Maintenance track on the Kelowna Pacific, in Vernon, BC.

From photo angle front to rear : LLPX 2261, 2267, 2606, 2605.

Please note that units 2606 and 2605 have Kelowna Pacific decals applied to the long hood sides.

Also, the car-bangers I posted are on the next track behind.
