LV equipment with "Route of the Black Diamond" on it.

Hi group,
thanks to two very interesting photos posted in the LV facebook group recently:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/LehighValleyRailroad/

of LV boxcars with the "Route of the Black Diamond" slogan on them, I thought it would fun and educational to create a list of ALL known LV equipment with "Route of the Black Diamond" on it! Its not a huge list, and only three types of equipment are known, cabooses, boxcars, and diesel switchers:

1. LV cabooses: I found six historic photos of LV cabooses (not including modern repaints) of LV cabooses with the slogan: 95053, 54, 59, 63, 69 and 79. Whats interesting is that those are ALL from the first two batches of LV steel cabooses, "Phase 1, Lot 1" and "Phase 1, Lot 2" built July 1937 to July 1939. Thats the first 30 (of 140) LV steel cabooses. It seems plusable all 30 were built new with the slogan. and so far there are no known cabooses from the later phase/lots with the slogan. click here for the full phase/lot list: (bottom of the page)
http://gold.mylargescale.com/Scottychaos/LVRR-Cabooselist-sortedbynumber.html
So far, the earliest date of LV equipment with the slogan would be July 1937.

2. LV boxcars. Four known photos of LV boxcars with the slogan have been found so far: 61086, 62000 (builders photo), 62008, and 62179. It stands to reason there were *many* more boxcars with the slogan! 62000 to 62179 is 180 individual cars! Did they all have the slogan? perhaps..

3. LV locomotives. Only two are known, and unlike boxcars, the photographic record is quite complete for locomotives, so its nearly certain these are the only two:
EMC SW number 106 and 107, built in 8/1937. (only one month after the first steel cabooses!) these were the only two of the SW's in the "Black and white" scheme..the rest of the series, sister units 108, 109, 110 and 111 arrived a year later, July 1938, painted new in the "pre war" scheme.

Im going to build a basic webpage documenting this equipment..I will probably have it up and running in a week or so, I will post it here when its ready..meanwhile, please discuss!

thanks,
Scot

maybe..but unlikely with that exact paintscheme.
there could have been a real LV reefer class with that number series,
but the paintscheme and "Route of the Black Diamond" could be fictional..
without prototype photos, we cant say for sure..

Hey Scotty; I think I saw a photo somewhere that had a "milk refer" with the slogan. However I can't remember where I saw it. I will do some mind searching to see what I come up with.    Keith

Scot,  As for additional later phase LV cabs with the earlier paint scheme with "Route Of The Black Diamond"   I just recieved a photo in the mail today of one i bought on Ebay of 95008 wich was a Lot 1 phase 4 cab. It has that paint scheme and the back of the photo is dated 1948. It say's rear end of LV H3.2   Loco #5002  4-8-2  S-2  with 82 cars with switcher #154 pushing over Crawford Hill  taken Friday March 12, 1948 11:12am at Oak Hill  NJ

#154 is pushing against the 95008 in the photo.

A week or two ago there was a old color slide on Ebay of LV cab #95027  a Lot 1 phase 6  cab wich also showed it with the "Route Of The Black Diamond" paint scheme. Bernie Beikirch owner of 95037 told me about it, at first he thought it was of 95037 but determined that it was 95027. I think he purchased the photo anyhow as it was a decent one with the crew on the rear platform waving.

Thanks!
those are modern(ish) photos of Steamtown's repaint of 95003.
they did a great job on the repaint, as did the WNYRHS with their 95001.

although..it looks like Steamtown has painted the 95003 again, but made it too dark this time:
