Pictured below is LV 211 (RS3), originally built as a joint venture by ALCO and GE for the PRR in 1953 it ended up as a trade from the PC in 1970 for the original LV 211 (RS2). Spend much of its Lehigh Valley life working the Buffalo, NY area. (Shown in the first LV paint scheme)

On "Reply 13" of this thread I posted the info on the GP18 and I thought I would provide an additional photo of the posted LV 304. As I was looking through some of the other threads , specifically "Paint schemes 300-305" the photo of 304 with the "Nose Job" (which is reposted below).

Looks like both photos were taken at the same place years apart, looks to be at the big shop in Sayre.

Can anyone tell me when the LV painted RS3 216 and GP9 301 in the "Cigar Band" paint scheme?

Just now read that the GP-9 was painted into this scheme in 1971, per "Lehigh Valley In Color, Vol.2" Pg 107.

I cannot speak for the #216, but I suspect it may have been right around the same time.

According to Steckler in Lehigh Valley Railroad Diesel Paint Schemes (1925-1976), the 216 was painted in the wide yellow band scheme in August 1973 and the 301 received the same scheme in 1972.

Using the same reference, the 216 was repainted in April 1974 and the 301 in February 1976, both to the final scheme they would have until ConRail.

As previousily mentioned the Lehigh Valley purchased 5 ALCO RS11 (High Nose) units from the PRR in 1967, but they were originally leased in 1964. Pictured below is LV 8648.
