Hi Scot! Looking forward to this year's trip!

9 AM start time sounds good to me. I vote for lunch at the Original Italian Grille...I didn't know the Sayre freight station still existed.

As for afterwards, option #2 to Newark Valley interests me the most, as the Lehigh & New York branch is my hometown line. However, option #3 makes sense for most of you, as it gets you headed home, so I would probably stay with the group as far as Towanda, and then head north.

Scot, let me know if you need help getting anything set up!

Hey everyone,
Looks like its coming together!

I just realized I made things confusing by providing maps for two options for after Sayre (the Owego route, or the Towanda route) but then labeling them option 2 and option 3! (option 1 was "neither, just go home from Sayre") some people didnt notice the option 1.

So I edited my first post...now its just:

Option 1: Owego - Newark Valley - Ithaca.
Option 2: Towanda - Wellsboro - Corning.

So far its tied! 3 to 3. (my vote is Towanda-Wellsboro)

although the Western New York contingent prefers Towanda-Wellsboro.
Its also possible different groups could go one way or the other..
more to discuss!

We have a specific request for making the trip Saturday April 9th.
how does that work for everyone?

thanks,
Scot

40th anniversary of the loss of the Lehigh. Also a reminder note, Buffalo Chapter NRHS ran a car caravan to Sayre on January 17 1976 and a LOT of people went on that trip. They had releases and did a full tour of the Sayre shops and MANY pictures were taken. I say this so you know up front that this material exists due to this trip. There were dozens of people that went, maybe 50 people or more and most brought cameras. Trip was set up by John baker who I believe is gone but Hugh Guillume, Devan Lawton, Ken Kramer and others I have long forgotten were also involved in the event. I say this as it would be well worth it to set things up in advance and see some of the material generated from that memorable day.
As I recall LV had a derailment that day up around Van-Etten so the LV mains were not moving so many chased the EL Southern Tier lines that afternoon as folks left Sayre and headed back to Buffalo, I know my carload did just that.

April 9th works for me also. Since I am coming from NJ, I will stay around the Sayre, Towanda area with you guys and then wing it from there.

Some of the pics have made their into various Morning Sun books, as I recall.

Ok everyone, things are coming together!
Lets formally declare two things:

1. The trip will be Saturday April 9th.
2. Let's do Milan-Towanda-Wellsboro after Sayre.

the Towanda route has had more votes than Owego..

I have some things in the works, more to come!
thanks,
Scot

Agreed, and that's great, because that allows me to go south from Towanda and trace the route of the old SL&S/BC Branch back towards home.

Scot -

If I do NOT have a gig the night before or the night of, then yes, I plan on being there, along with my father. It's a long ride, so I have to plan accordingly.

I'll be there. I was originally planning to drive down on my own, but it might be wise to give the Saturn a rest. Can I ride with someone?

Thanks,
Scot

Scot, I'm in!

Mind if I ask Dan Armitage if he would like to come? When we did the Geneva-Trumansburg trip a couple of years ago, he was there with A. Bruce Tracy.

Aric, glad you can join us again! And sure (asking Dan.)
Once we have the specific timeline worked out, I'll post it here.
We will likely meet up at the Sayre station..more to follow on the time to meet.

Scot, I may have a fellow from work interested in tagging along with me this year. If he comes along, I'll let you know because I'll be driving myself since another person will overload your car. I should probably know for sure in a couple days...

Bob

Hopefully some folks named Bednar will be attending!?!
