Hey Gang; Boy after looking at some of Scot's photos, I am sorry I did not make the trip.
For some reason I only get Scot's photos from Naples and a few at Middlesex, then the photos just show an X. Is it my computer or me??
Thanks again for the photos and the "look back".
                                                           Keith

hmmm..sorry about that Keith,  I cant explain why you wouldn't see them all.
they are all in the same album and should have identical "public sharing" settings..

Can anyone else only see some of my photos but not all of them?
I will try to do some troubleshooting..

meanwhile, Keith please let me know if you can see them all here or not:

I got the photos on your link Scot. I really liked the way you did the map on the last few photos. Thanks so much for taking the pictures and passing them on.
Ken; I will have to try and do the reload. My internet connection is slow and that may be the case indeed. Frontier says "high speed" but I am not sure what high speed is to them. Every time a tech comes to the house he says everything is working fine. What BS that is.
All that being said I appreciate what you guys did and appreciate you posting the photos.    Keith

Thanks Keith!
glad you could see them the other way..

I shouldnt have put all the photos in one post..although it probably wouldnt make any difference if they were in seperate posts, because they would still all have to load anyway..although if they spilled over into another forum page, (some on "page 36"..then some might have gone over to "page 37")
that would have been less photos to load per page..

For future reference, I wont post so many pics in one individual post..probably better to split them up a bit..

Charlie ,sorry you couldn't come last week, hopefully you can make it next year for Sayre. You DO know I'd be happy to give you a ride if you'd like.

Scot, as usual, fantastic job with your pics of the weekend. I think TB Diamond best summed it up as "A most complete and excellent photographic record".  I wish I had the knack for such eloquence.

Most of my photos weren't much different than the rest; I haven't had much time to post them due to being in the middle of a complete bathroom remodel. However, I will post them when I get a few moments to spare.

I am sure you guys have heard of the NKP 765 excursions into the Southern Tier and NE Pennsylvania this coming August. The last time an event such as this happened supposedly was 1985. I for one would like to see it. or at least chase it down the Southern Tier line (Matt). Is there any interest among the group in getting together to go see such a magnificent machine?

thanks for the pics Matt! great stuff!

I think this might have already been mentioned, but I have an idea for the 2017 tour!
John Stewart just emailed me some cool maps of the Hemlock area..
we could do a whole tour of the Rochester branch..
starting in Hemlock, work north to Rochester junction..(see if we can get permission to hike out to that wooden trestle)
up to Rochester, looking at whatever we can find at the way..
and of course end with dinner at Dinosaur BBQ!
(which is in the LV Rochester passenger station, at the far northern end of the branch)

so kick that idea around in your heads..
im going to start working on Sayre soon..
thanks,
Scot

Hey everyone!
It's almost 2016!
time to begin working out the details for our sixth annual trip!

This year's destination is Sayre PA, the ancestral heart of the LV, and the place I was born..
We are planning for early April..the 40th anniversary of the end of the LV.
a few thoughts to get started:

For those of us coming down from Rochester, I would suggest we dont stop for breakfast this time, just because we have a 2-hour drive to get to Sayre. So lets just eat at home, or pick up breakfast and eat while driving..(which is what I would plan to do!

I havent talked to Sayre yet, but I plan to soon..I have contacts for both the museum and the yard. I would suggest starting at the museum, perhaps 9am, (or we can discuss a different meet time) then over to the yard. I'll post more about that as plans progress.

We have a cool option for lunch! The "Original Italian Grille", which is located inside the LV's Sayre freight station! and is railroad themed..Mangialardo's  has also been floated as a favorite.

For those of us coming down from Rochester, we have a few interesting options for the drive home..depending on the time, and what people want to see, we could:

1. Drive out to Owego, then up to Newark Valley:

LV station in Owego.
O&H Railway in Owego.
Then check out some of the old Auburn division:
LV station and caboose in Newark Valley.
Up to Ithaca, LV passenger car at the RR display at the LV Ithaca station..
then home via Geneva..maybe a stop at FGLK if its still light.
(sunset in early April will be 7:40..it will be light until 8pm.)

2. Or head south to Towanda:

Two LV cabooses at the Milan train station.
Lehigh Railway in Towanda.
LV mainline Susquehanna River bridge in Towanda.
The old S&NY depot in Towanda.
then west over to Wellsboro, check out the Wellsboro & Corning.
then north back up to Corning, and back home from there..

So, those are some ideas to get us started! discuss!

Scot

Hi Scot! I am very much looking forward to our trip to Sayre this year, and to hopefully meeting some our friends that haven't been able to make it up to our earlier upstate NY events!

As for myself, I'd like to do your 2nd option, Sayre-Milan-Towanda. Wellsboro too, if everyone concurs.

I'm also willing to carpool with anyone who may be going from the central/eastern Fingerlakes Region.

Guys -

Have a great New Years and an even better New Years day hike, I wish I could join you.....But I've got a layout operating session to attend, and then a gig that night........No time to fit in a 200+ mile car ride!

I expect lots of pictures! LOL!

#2 sounds good to me. I would love to learn more about Sayre and the LV in that area. I will be coming from NJ so I may skip the Wellsboro trip. ( I have been there before )

This trip won't be happening till April. We haven't even picked the exact weekend yet. Who knows- you might be able to join us after all!
