The old Bradford Hotel was a good place, as well.

So many of the spots along the old LV that I knew are now gone to development or Ma Nature. Been glad to impart with what little I know, however.

You folks have a great tour.

What Little you know? Now THAT'S FUNNY !!! it would have been nice to meet you, Paul.  Maybe next year.  In the meantime, I'm still trying to track down that Sampson photo!

Yeah, that really is a good one, Paul....I wish I knew 10% of what you've probably forgotten!

Seriously, I continue to hope that our schedules for our treks back to NY will mesh one of these years and that I'll finally get to meet you and pick your brain about all things LV for a while.  In the meantime, please keep the "guess the location" pics and all the great commentary and info coming...I never get tired of reading your posts, and we're all grateful that you're here!

Keith and Everyone:

Very much looking forward to meeting you all as well. It's going to be a fun day
and I am psyched for Saturday. Paul, like the others, I am greatful for your knowledge
and all the photos you have shared here and many books. I'm also greatful for all
of the LV shots everyone else has shared over the years as I was only 5 in 1976 and never saw the Valley.

Thanks, guys for the compliments. I am humbled.

Should have stated what little I know as compared to the folks who were familiar with the LVRR years before I came along.

K1: Here is that Sampson photo. LVRR locomotive No. 2053 4-6-2 Class K4.
Forgive the poor quality as it is a scan of a scan. Appears the loco is shoving compass north across the main entrance to Sampson NTS, probably just after the war as other than official photography on military facilities during WWII was strictly forbidden.

You may well not have the time, but the location where the R&E R Rwy. crossed over the LVRR west of Swamp Road would be well worthy of a visit. Just east of this, on the south side of the tracks, is a beautiful artesian spring. One has to know where to look, however and it is probably on private property, alas.

Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow.

It will be great to finally put faces to the very familiar
names. I'm a punctual sort, so I will be there just before 8:00.

Hey everyone, sorry to say I will only be able to join you for breakfast and the caboose, I need to be home before 10:30. While i am saddened by this, it can't be helped. I am requesting that many pictures be taken in my absence and sent to me if possible at marks22@rochester.rr.com  I really would like pictures of Rochester junction and the new rebuilt wye bridges if possible as well as the caboose restoration and 211 at the RGVRR museum. Thanks all!!

Just checked the weather report for Western NYS. Appears you folks will be O.K. until approximately 15:00 when showers are forecast.

It is just about 11:30 back there right now and I hope all is going well.

As do so many others, I look forward to viewing some photos of the day's activities.

We had a wonderful time today and we had good sunshine for the
bulk of our outing. It did start to cloud up as we were preparing to
leave the Junction for the museum at Rush. We hung out there until
around 1:45. I will be posting photos shortly.

A big "THANK YOU" goes out to Matt and John Stewart for setting
things up, to Mark for setting up the visit to Bernie's caboose in
Victor (and thanks to Bernie himself and his time!).

It was awesome to have Keith Bednar make the trek from
Mehoopany, PA to join us and I personally had a great time
meeting everyone........it was a great day!

Charlie

BTW, Keith--I sent you a PM

Keith,

I'm guessing maybe us "New York folk" just aren't accustomed to swimming
when the calendar still says April! :-P

Amazing find though.........it took an "eagle eye" like yours to see that link!

Charlie (getting ready to raise a cold "12 Horse" to toast the day)

Looking forward to seeing the pictures, it was great seeing all you great friends, and Keith, it was an honor to have a Bednar with you. If you ever run across any pictures of this area(Victor, Rochester Junction, Geneva, or Manchester) that did not make it into the books, please share them with us when you have time. Hope everyone had a great day!! Mark

Glad you guys had a good time.

Yep, Keith is the best. Back in the fall of 2002 he drove all the way up to Syracuse from his home near Mehoopany, PA just to take in a slide show my wife and I put on for the Central New York NRHS chapter.

Here are a few highlights from yesterday:

After breakfast, we headed over behind Victor Insulator and toured
Bernie Beikirch's caboose (95037) and he also had an old LV boxcar
and a wooden BR&P hack as well as an old reefer car (LV heritage?)

Inside the 95037, visible from left to right, is Mark (mtcg16), John Stewart (rgvrr), Bernie Beikirch (owner of 95037), and Keith Bednar (darktown2).
