When I left off the picture series, the visit to Rochester Junction in Mendon was wrapping up, so let's move over to Rush. There were alot of great things to see there... but I'll stick with the LV related items for this thread.

We went to the Rochester & Genesee Valley R Museum, where the "star of the show" was former LV #211, without any doubt.

After a while, the museum staff opened up the cab of #211 and we each took turns sitting on the "throne" aka engineer's seat. This is the view from that seat.

I think this is the electrical box of #211, but I'm not 100% sure.

Much of our visit to to the Rochester & Genesee Valley RR Museum was spent viewing non-LV items. Therefore, I will post the pictures of them in appropriate forums as time permits. In the meantime, I leave you with this group taken right before we went our separate ways.

On the ground: Chris (alsorailfan), Darren,  me and Ken_g
On #211: Mark (mctg16), John (rgvrrm), Bob (Kendaia1) and Scot.

Photo taken by me Saturday 4/2/2011 in the town of Rush, NY. I appreciate all who cam out, with a big THABNK YOU going out to Scott and John for helping me make this event happen. It was a great time.

Great article- thanks for mentioning us!

One minor correction: Conrail did not remove most of the Lehigh Valley in NY during 1981. That was actually done by the PC estate (which owned virtually all of LV's stock) circa 1978.

Correction:

The Lehigh Valley Railroad Company Estate, Robert C. Haldeman, Trustee oversaw the removal of former Lehigh Valley Railroad Company track that was not conveyed to ConRail.

This work was accomplished by contractors hired by the estate.

The track to include all rail, hardware and ties was removed by A&K Track Materials.

This work actually began in late 1976, not in 1978. On 06 December 1976 I photographed A&K removing old No. 2 track between Mendon and Quaker Int. The work of removing the LVRR track in upstate NY did continue through 1978, however.

Per request:

A&K Track materials Pettibone crane w/gon at Quaker Int. on 06 December 1976.

My photo notes mention that A&K was tearing up old MT 2 between Mendon and Rochester Jct. at the time.

This was probably the last rail equipment to ever operate on this segment of the former Lehigh Valley Railroad.

Previous photo notes mention ConRail train EX-1 spotting gons for loading by A&K at Rochester Jct. on 30 November 1976.
