Rochester meet-up

OK, I know a couple of us have raised the possibility of a meet-up to explore Rochester Junction... so let me ask this: who is serious about coming out to do this? If so, when would you like to do it?

I can do it, provided it falls on a weekend when I'm not working for my band.

Im in!
most any Saturday or Sunday would probably be good for me..
the only scheduled events I have are some train shows, where my G-gauge club runs displays..but there arent a lot of those..
if someone plans a day, odds are good I can be there..
sounds cool!

I was thinking maybe May or June..when the weather is nice..
although maybe earlier would be better..like maybe March..before a lot of vegetation begins to grow and hides things..we could get a better look at railroad remnants before the leaves come out..

I'd like to do it, as long as we can plan it far enough in advance. I was thinking April or May... Too much of a risk of snow and mud in March... And, They have built roads up here now from New Jersey!

At the risk of getting the award for "longest distance traveled" to attend (unless we can talk TB into being there too!), I would definitely be interested in showing up for this if it happens!  In addition to being an interesting old LV location to poke around (which I unfortunately never did during my "formative years" in Central NY), it would also be a great opportunity to finally meet some of the folks who I've come to "know" over the past ~10 years from this list.  Given enough advance notice (and assuming that it's on a weekend this spring?), I'd make an effort to join in.

We have a large group here in suburban Kansas City that does a similar annual outing the day after Thanksgiving to explore old railroad stuff (it's come to be known as the annual "Walk in the Weeds"), and it's always a great time.

Come on Ralph.... where's your "commitment to the hobby" ??

Have given some thought to traveling back to NYS again this year. However, it would not be until this fall at the earliest.

A visit to the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Historical Society Museum in HF would be worth a short side trip if the meeting at Rochester Jct. comes to fruition. The museum is open 14:00-16:00 Sundays only. There are some LVRR Rochester Jct. artifacts and photos on display in a small side room.

Good fortune and I hope to see some photos of the meeting posted.

Rochester Jct is one place I never did get to when I lived in WNY but I'm a little too far west (West of Denver)and too busy a schedule. Have a good time everyone.

I'm interested, but Saturdays are better than Sundays for me. Once racing and baseball starts up it can get tough to pry me away on Sundays...

I also like to be able check things out before the leaves obscure the views, but we'll probably get a better turnout if we schedule it for a potentially warmer date. We may want to set a primary date and also a backup date in case of rain. My days of rail archaeology in the rain are pretty much behind me

I agree on the warmer weather. What about late March or early April? The really cold weather should be over by then but (as Scot suggests) we'll also be able to see more of the ROW before the vegetation starts growing again. Any thoughts?

Matt,
that sounds good to me!
looks like you are in charge of this,
so how about just picking a date and then we can see how it works for everyone? then tweak the date if necessary..

On April 9 & 10 there will be a G-gauge train display running at Bristols Garden center in Victor..I normally go for the day either Sat or Sun..
but I could work in a trip to the junction on one of those days as well..
and if anyone is interested in seeing the G-gauge trains run, that could be a fun side trip..probably Live steam running too:

just a suggestion!
another weekend would be fine for me too..

I'd rather not have a conflict with the live steamers, so I think we should do it on Saturday, April 2nd. All in favor, say aye!

Excellent! I think we have enough interest to justify the expedition on 4/2!

That said, other LV fans have plenty of time to decide whether they'll join us.
