Thanks! At time of item in 1961, the Railroads were not all that good at forecasting the future. Neither any one else, and is still the case...

Who knew REA would go on to complete collapse? Yep! The times they were a-changin'? People were indicted for it. All of it, "...blame
the messenger..."?

The following is from the September 13, 1955, "The Plain Speaker", which was a newspaper from Hazleton, PA.

"LVRR Orders 27 Trailers"

The Lehigh Valley Railroad has placed an order with Fruehauf Trailer Company for twenty-seven 33-foot trailers, which will be the general van type and three insulated, to be built at Fruehauf's Avon Lake, Ohio plant. They will be used in trailer-on-flat-car service (piggy back) and will cost approximately $130,000. The trailers will be equipped with railroad tie-down brackets and other innovations to provide for safe movement in the company's fast freights. Delivery of the trailers is expected within sixty days. The trailers are being purchased to accommodate the Lehigh's trailer-on-flat-car traffic between the New York-North Jersey metropolitan area and midwestern points, including Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland and Detroit. They will also be utilized in new piggy back service between the New York-North Jersey area and Buffalo-Niagara frontier stations.

Pictured below is T-23, the T-1 thru T-23 series remain on the roster until 63-64
