If you drive up 895 from downtown Slatington, make right onto road which used to lead into LV Little Gap station, and continue up hill, there is a wildlife sanctuary there and you can get up onto the roadbead of the LNE, and walk along it right on the side of the mountain.  I did this last month and the views are awesome.  Unfortunately, there's nothing really left of evidence of LNE other than coal dust underfoot, and a few mounts for switches, etc.  I recommend it highly, always wanted to get up to that row as I looked across from other side where the LNE bridge once crossed over.

I was able to make that hike in the spring on both sides of the Lehigh. The views are awesome. You can also hike down to Palmerton on the branch row.
