I have read elsewhere that the New Haven railroad purchased covered hoppers in 1954 from Pullman Standard and that some of these were in dedicated cement service with the L&NE and were stenciled as such.  Does anyone have any knowledge or info regarding these cars?  Were they dedicated to a particular cement mill in the area?  Any additional info would be appreciated.

Good morning JTE,
I forwarded your query to the message board of the Anthracite RR Yahoo group and got an answer this morning---it is as follows:
"Yes, the NH had covered hoppers stenciled "Return to L&NE". I was told years ago by a friend who lived in the Pen Argyl area that the cars just said "Return to L&NE", but no station name. That's not to say that station names may have been used at some point, but he only remembered cars without a station names.
Atlas did two NH cars in HO in its last run of PS-2 hoppers; road numbers 117055 and 117083 with the "Return to L&NE" lettering.."
I hope this helps some---I found this pretty interesting myself!
Have a good day,

~Charlie Ricker
