Just an interesting tid bit...

The LNE bridge over the Lehigh River in Catasaqua, PA at the east end was wider. This is because there was actually a spur that started on the bridge (a switch stand for the spur was on the bridge as well).  This spur swung south and paralleled the CNJ tracks and stub ended at Race St at a scrap yard. To my disbelief the scrap yard is still there! It still exists to this day. The LNE used to deliver gondola cars there. The row of this spur is basically obliterated. Gone since 1961.

I guess NS isn't interested in serving them (CNJ never did either).

Funny that Catty Scrap Yard has a sign that says "world headquarters" like their world renowned or got got other scrap yards all over the world. Gotta like their sense of humor .

One day I shall be a Lighthouse Keeper on a small grassy island in a remote part of a sea in Heaven for eternity. Thankyou God for giving me that oppurtunity.

Did a little research on good "ol Penn Pilot and found this...This is a section from a March 21 1938 aerial in which the scrap yard siding shows up surprisingly well.. Turns out the siding was much closer to the Lehigh river then i had imagined it was...

I didn't know the CNJ had a yard there in Caty too. Looks like it's around 8 tracks wide.

Amazing the only thing left in this photo today is the single track CNJ.

With the Catty yard, the LNE/CNJ interchange yard (also in Catty), the large yard beneath the Coplay Northampton bridge, The CNJ/N&B yard (also in Northampton) and the Dragon Cement yard (ALSO ALSO in Northampton!!!) ya gotta wonder how much yard trackage their was just in this few mile stretch!!! and when you add in the large LVRR,Reading and LNE  interchange yard in west Catasauqua,PLUS the Readind's OWN West Catty yard and then the Ironton Railroad's Biery yard..Must have been  be a couple hundred miles of yard track!!!
