A great aerial shot of the Louisville Terminal complex in all of it's splendor!
The date of erection was 1876: 1889-1891  Construction first began on the site for a railroad station in 1876, but was soon abandoned.  Construction resumed in August of 1889 ,utilizing and enlarging the previous foundation. The building was formally opened September 7,1891 by the arrival of the first train at 7:37 am.  Total cost amounted to $310,056.
At its opening, it was the largest train station in the south and the second largest in the west next to Chicago.
In 1978 Louisville and Nashville sold the Union Station to Transit Authority of River City.

A late reply here for certain but that is an impressive building, Eddie. Good to see that some of the more noble railroad buildings dodge the wrecking ball.

Thanks Danny!  Its good to see that all the crazies haven't taken over everthing in this world.   I would like to see a newer picture of the old lady today.
Maybe someone out there can get a pic?   A little help?
