Spreading Ballast - CSX Mountain Sub

Tuesday, July 14, 2015 found a crew dropping ballast along track #2 from the AES West Keyser to Beall Street in Cumberland, MD.
 
W070-13 came west out of Cumberland that morning and after running the power around the train and crossing over to track #2, the crew started spreading shortly after lunch.

For the entire process two men walked along side the cars controlling the dump chutes - 14 July 2015

We're at a private crossing near Hi-Rock along the Potomac River about 5 miles east of Keyser, WV.
 
The Crew Truck on track #1 runs along beside the Ballast Train and provides support and additional crews to switch out with the other guys running the chutes - 14 July 2015

Great coverage of one of the most underrated facets of railroading. Nothing like some fresh #4 granite on the right of way......
