**I love what these British train modelers have done, Creating the old riverside town of Mauch Chunk Pennsylvania. I have followed it through the years, enjoying their skill. I hope to get there (Jim Thorpe) early this Summer and either take the train or shuttle up to White Haven and ride my bicycle down River back to Jim Thorpe. I am hoping for a lot of coasting and very little hard peddling. People who have done it say it is downhill all the way. I should get a lot of photos. frank

* I'll be up there on Sat. July 1 2017. Gonna get a shuttle ride up to White Haven and bicycle ride back to Jim Thorpe. Going to meet my Steve and do the ride together. Most likely I'll pick him up at his house along the way. It should be a good day out. We both will have cameras. frank

First of all , my apologies for not having replied sooner to your first posting. I have been travelling away from home and only returned yesterday.
I am one of the recent converts to Steve Hales' long-term dream of recreating Mauch Chunk in model form. Since becoming a member of our group Steve has been able to call on more resources and we are taking the opportunity to extend and upgrade the original concept so that it can survive the rigours of the British exhibition circuit.
In particular, given the extra space at our clubroom, we are able to model a little further upriver from the station towards the road bridge over the Lehigh river (and where the roundhouse used to be).
We will be remodelling the roadway leading to the bridge including the walling/rock/infill between the roadway and the railway. Also we will be able to include a small part of the bank/shore between the railway and the river.
I note that you are taking a trip to Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk) in the near future. If you happen to have a bit of time spare and could take some images of the areas described above then it would certainly help to get these details correct on the model.
I have done some searching on the internet and can see the area is now fairly covered in vegetation but hopefully we can pick out the proper walling from rock face and/or infill.

As to a bridge crossing over the Lehigh, they were in the south end of our trip. First at Glen Onoko. then at the north end of the X-CNJ yard. When we pass over these bridges there wasn't much to see. On the first at Glen Onoko only the ridges could be seen. No up river or down river views. At the second. only downriver view. As to bridge supporting columns, not much to see. I was very tired and my but was also sore. All I want to do is get back to Jim Thorpe and my car after a stop in a Pub. At 71 years old it was a hard 26 mile ride for me. Sorry what you need is a trip to investigate just your needs. It can be done with a trip to Jim thorpe, then a ride as far north as the park road will take you. Both bridges are either at Glen Onoko and its parking lot or just south of it. going south you are on the west bank aproaching the Glen shortly after you cross back over back to the west bank. * I wont be back there agan untill maybe St Patty's Day in March 2018 if i am still around.
