OK, lets hear from you all.... What are your favorite structure kits? Right now mine are;  American Model Builder Laser Kits and Builders In Scale.. At one time it was Campbell.....

I like my Walthers Cornerstone buildings because of their realistic size and Proto 2000 buildings because theyre pre-painted.

I just love the new Walther's Milwaukee Station and planning getting one.

I'm a fan of both American Model Builder's Laser Kits and Branchline Trains Laser Art Structures. The peel and stick windows, doors, trim, and roofing really speeds assembly and creates a clean finished look.

I've always liked the Walthers Magic Pan bakery, and American Hardware Supply, and the North Island Refinery. cool structures.

** A nice kit is the " Alexander" freight station of 1955.

 Info from MR Feb 1955, article starts on page 12
History of station; built in 1868 by the Grand Valley Railroad in Caledonia Michigan. It became a New York Central Railroad station.

Hi, Henry!  I guess that this is the Mad River museum building now? The building looks to be in good shape. The sign is interesting. It still has its original lighting. It seems to be missing a Freight door for the platform. The old passenger car and baggage car may be vintage equipment stored on the track along side the building for this Historical Society.

Yes it is one of the Mad River society's buildings. They have a pretty good amount of equipment there. I haven't been there in over a decade. I used to live less than a half hour away from Bellevue so I got there on a fairly regular basis. It is still a pretty busy RR town, but it must have been a fantastic train watching spot back in the day! It had the NKP and PRR crossing the NYC and W&LE at the same spot in town. Now NS owns all, but the NYC, which was abandoned long ago.

The little I know about the Mad River RR.
• Henry, on October 6, 1837, the “New Jersey Railroad and Transportation Company” received on trial a locomotive, The “Sandusky” built by for them by “Rogers Ketchum and Grosvenor company” of  Patterson New Jersey. It was the first locomotive they had ever built. A trial trip from Patterson to Jersey City then to New Brunswick and return to Patterson was quite a long test trip, of which it passes this first test. This new engine was huge when compared to earlier models, and it weighed over 9 tons and was of a 4-2-0 design. The successful operation of this locomotive paved the way for additional purchases from this “Roger’s” company. It was built by Rogers to the gauge of the NJRR&TCo’s 4’ 10”. Now, something happened and this locomotive was sold to the “Mad River & Lake Erie R. R” instead of the New Jersey railroad and became the first Railroad locomotive in Ohio. At the time it arrived in Ohio, there was no track laid, and the road was built to the gauge of this, the first locomotive in Ohio, 4’ 10”. The State of Ohio passed an Act that all railroads built in this state would be the gauge 4’ 10”. Now that was forward thinking, for here in New Jersey it became a mishmash of different gauges. The NJRR built its cut to accept two tracks of 4’ 10’ track. It wound up with those two tracks caring 4 different gauges of track. The cut wasn’t wide enough to give clearances to the broad gauge, 6 foot Erie. This resulted in many accidents. in the cut.

Since the Mad River & Lake Erie was started in Sandusky, Ohio and built south from there, I find it unlikely that Rogers' first engine was named Sandusky if it was originally built for the NJR&T. It is plausible that it was built with that name if it was built for the MR&LE and only loaned to the NJR&T for the trial.  
 
It also happened to be the first locomotive built with cast iron drivers.

Henry that was Rogers first locomotive. Upon completion it rolled out of the factory was put on rails of the Patterson and Hudson River RR and set off on its test run. I doubt if it had any name on it. I don't think they thought about that back then with the first engine made. Who knows what really happened?
