Here is #721 reassembled with a replacement frame, trucks and couplers. The frame is a old Mantua one. Boiler band will be applied. I don't have the short walkways, and they could only be found on a old car. I'll be looking for them. Side hand rail needs to be worked on. This tank body is in much better condition than the other. Maybe more to come.
I do like trying to bring back these old cars to running condition. It is sad that other replacement parts must be used or they will just sit a tray waiting for  parts, may be forever.. This car with its interesting company paint scheme will be good to see rolling around on a layout again, along with all the other old cars from the 1950's like the Mantua, Athearn, Globe, Silver Streak, Thomas and the like.

I think it is great that you spend the effort to restore these old cars. Part of the fun of going to the shows is the "hunt" for parts for restoration projects and new projects as well. - good looking car.

I like to see these old cars running around the layout in long trains. With some luck I get a few more this year.

It has been awhile since my last post here in old cars. I have a very different older style tank car made by Red Ball. It is an owner used car. Monsanto Chemical car. I won't try to describe it and will just post a photo. As I said this car is of a different type.

It is a different kind of animal. It is almost like a cross between a butter dish milk car and a regular tank car.

Frank - The flatcar with the two milk containers looks like an earlier version of the F&C kits in the 6900 series milk cars. The containers were filled with milk and attached to the flatcars for unloading onto trucks at the city terminals.  - early containerization...

Decals may be a challenge to find. I have seen some in partial kits at shows and on ebay. Too bad F&C won't supply decals. Microscale decals for milk cars do exist and you may be able to mix and match for the car. These flatcars were used by a number of dairies and you can always customize it for a fictional dairy company.

It is a nice kit and is somewhere on my list to acquire one for my milk trains.

Frank - these were only used to transport milk from the country dairy to the city processing plants. I don't believe that Breyers was a user. Most I have seen are Borden's dairy. The National Car Co lettering is pretty standard font, so maybe something close can be found for that lettering.

Sounds good Frank. That Breyers logo will look very good on the white containers.

Marx made this Virginian open hopper in the early 1960. Unlike all others made by other manufactures that are black Athearn and Varney. They are made in  brown and red.

*** Today it is snowing here in Bayonne. It will be a big one. I may do a lot of posting today.
** Through this entire posting in this thread I have not posted trains made in HO scale by one of the oldest toy Manufacture of trains in the USA. The Louis Marx Company made a Line of HO trains, which fit in perfectly with the dating of this thread. For many years they made Christmas train sets for the Sears company. They also marketed their own trains set under their name. As a child there trains were very familiar to me. I'd like to say I will now post a few of them, but naaaaa ! There will be a bunch of them. I really like them!
** I'll start this manufactures list with a trainset made by them for Sears. This set has one of the most sought after cars made by Marx in HO scale. The Erie flat car with a Criss Craft Cruiser as a load. The boat with its mount was sold separately. I am missing the original load for the other Erie flat car. It was either 2 cars or 2 pickup trucks.

** The Locomotive used in the set is a Marx F3A New Haven in McGinnis colors with a matching caboose. The box car is a ATSF 40' box car with Sears added in place of the abbreviated road name and car number. These are the railroad's recording marks for the car.

Interesting - I didn't know that SEARS had their name on the cars. I have seen an ERIE flatcar with two automobiles on it. Not sure if that was part of that great set you have there.
