Interesting cars Frank. I think I remember seeing a Koppers chemical tank car somewhere in the past.

The Koppers cars I have are made by Gilbert and Varney. There is even a Varney one made for sale by Gilbert. Varney's are red. Gilbert's are black.

I went back and read the index of cars on post one and I haven't posted any photos of the 2 Gilbert, Koppers, tank cars yet. Only the recent reply 178 for the Varney red one. I'll have to do something about that.

***  Here is the Gilbert Koppers tank car. It is a early one with the 3 digit number 518.  This is a Varney car made for sale by Gilbert. The Gilbert is a larger car, with a longer tank frame .

***  This is Gilbert number 33518 Koppers Chemical tank car. This later car and is a Gilbert car. Cars types with both numbers were sold by Gilbert using their car and the Varney car. So you can find a #518 in a Gilbert car and a 33518 in a Varney car.

Just to pass along that it is great to see your posts in the thread. Reminds of ages back trips to local, well stocked hobby shops.
Haven't seen much of these replicas in ages...

BTW. Years back, picked up (sadly only one) an apparently VARNEY Covered Hopper, 40 foot. Very nice tooling, and a good product.
It either a Portland Cement or dry bulk Fertilizer Car. Have not seen more recent use of the tooling. It was a good piece, while it lasted...

** Vern nice to hear from you again. I too really like these old cars. Still see many at train shows. I only posted the Koppers in response to a reply posted. I still want to get the rest of the Varney tank cars posted. After that through popular demand on one post. Yours ! I'll dig up my Varney 2 bay hoppers and post the ones I haven't done already. In checking the index it seems I haven't posted any as of yet. I know I have between 8 and 12 of just covered hoppers. Then a bunch of open hoppers of the same type and size. It will take a lot of posts to get this info out and listed here.
* I want to get going on my next Camelback locomotive. For that I will need a lot of time. I haven't done a 2-6-0, 4-6-0, 0-8-0 or 2-8-0 as of yet. The 2-6-0 will need a entirely scratch built body like the LVRR 4-4-0c I made.
Got a lot to think about.

Interesting cars. Years ago even the tank cars had different schemes which made train watching enjoyable. Now mainly black and tough to know the owner. I have seen the Union Carbide car before , that is a nice one.

Here is a real odd old tank car kit with the tank made of plastic. It looks like it had 5 or 7 pieces to the tank. There is a wood flat car for it to mount to.
I don't know who made the kit. I would guess !950's or 60's.* The recording marks are BFIX 539.

These are some of my favorite. They not only hauled milk, but also chemicals later on.

This is the F&C version that I have painted in the red scheme. I have been collecting cars for a milk train that I am working on. This one REALLY stands out.
