Finally, have fun finding another set of these.  Overland Conrail SD38 and MT6 slug.

Gee, Just look at all that neat RDG and Conrail power.... Gotta love it.. I just can't compete with all that big power.. I just don't have room for large radius curves to run that stuff.
Here's my current locomotive project.....
A PK2 SW9 painted and lettered for the Tyler County Traction. As soon as the air hoses get painted and the engine is weathered a little, it will be put in service.

Here are a few of my favorites.

This is a modified Mantua 0-6-0 camelback.

Major changes included regearing as per an article in Model Railroading a few years back, cab window alteration, addition of detail parts and directional lighting.

The lettering was done with CDS dry transfers and the weathering with chalks.

This box cab was kit bashed from two Athearn caboose kits on an Athearn Hustler frame with an Ernst regear kit.

It has no prototype but I enjoy doing "what if" models.

This model of CNJ box cab #1000 was made from a MDC kit.

The shell was modified to include some open windows and it was painted green as it had appeared for a time for some special occasion.

Weathering was done with chalks.

Yo Tab,

Great job. Really looks like something that "could have been".

Okay, Challenge time: Let's see you, or anyone, kitbash, scratch build etc. what you think a GG-2 should look like. You may just give the powers that be a great idea.

This is a modified Mantua camel back.

I didn't do too much...a coal load, head light, markers, paint and decals.

I like the sleek look of this locomotive.

That's a great looking bash there.  That could easily be taken as a prototype.  It looks great!

Thanks Guys...I had a lot of fun with this.

It was based on an article in Model Railroader back in the late 70s or early 80s.

In the process I developed a couple my own techniques that I still use to this day.

My favorite is for installing the grab irons.

After measuring with a template, I only drill one hole for one leg of the part. I drill the hole one wire size larger than needed. I cut the other leg flush.

After inserting the piece an getting it square, a tiny drop of crazy glue on the inside fills the hole and sets the part.

It has worked every time. Sometimes a little concave bend in the piece helps with positioning and stability till the glue sets.

I've done this with the drop grabs as on the model but also with roof and ladder grabs on passenger cars and engines.

It beats having to drill two holes at the exact position so the the grabs don't bow out or curve in.

It is also much easier to get a single series of vertical holes drilled than a series of both verticlal and parallel holes.

...Tom
