I had always wanted to railfan the FEC since moving south, and always managed to put it off. I happened across an article in Railroads Illustrated about the FEC ordering new GE locomotives due to arrive at the end of the year, and all the older EMD power would be sidelined from regular service. I figured it was now or never to see some of the older power on the premier trains. While over the course of a whole week I didn't see one Champion paint scheme, at least I caught all the other paint schemes currently on the property, and was treated to the operations of a timetable-run operation. Very efficient, and a beautiful right of way for a regional railroad.

Within my first twenty minutes trackside, southbound train #107 appears, and gets a proceed out of Bowden yard. I attempted to chase it, not knowing the horrid US Hwy 1 traffic light situation would keep me from catching it all the way to St Augustine, FL, and only because they had to stop for a roll by due to alleged sparking coming from one of the cars.

Great shots, I really like the first shot of 107!

The FEC is a great railroad to chase. I only had two chances to get over to the main while working in FLA. Should have spent more time but its a 180 from being track side in the north east.

A few of the new GE's are already being tested in Erie and should be in transit to the FEC soon. They need to be finished up by the end of Dec to avoid having to be built to tier 4 standards.  My guess is they will show up in two or three groups to fill out the order.

Thanks, I actually thought about trying to get back down there for a few days to catch some of the Champs before they're sidelined, with a demanding work schedule it doesn't look too promising.

A local works in Cocoa, FL. Unusual to see intermodal being worked in local freights elsewhere, on the FEC it's a big part of business

FEC train 210 slows on its northbound run to await arrival of FEC train 101, meeting in Ft Pierce, FL. Traffic would be tied up for some time as the downtown crossings were blocked, but locals seemed accustomed to it, as the FEC runs a tight timetable operation.

Southbound train 101 meets the 210 in Ft Pierce, staying on the mainline, as it's the premier train. This would be the only train I saw all week with matched "Alaska scheme" SD70's.

right behind the local was this northbound road train. The bridge is still in service for marine traffic.

Glad you caught some good shots of the as delivered SD70Ms. From what I gather they are all out of service and being made ready to go into lease service. Rumor has it that CSX might lease some.

I had heard that about the SD70s and non rebuilt SD40-2's. Now THAT would make for some eye opening railfanning!!

Managed to chase 101 south, barely beating her to St Augustine for a very familiar bridge shot.
