**This thread will deal with the Heart of Georgia Railroad operations in Cordele, GA. Other HOG action is welcome, as well as rail traffic through the interlocking in Cordele. 1/5/14**

Took a trip with some friends to Cordele primarily to look at the Heart of Georgia (HOG) Railroad's operations there. We also caught some very interesting CSX and NS action there. The three lines cross at grade in the middle of town, and all three have local jobs that work there. HOG 1740 and 1540 (note the snow shield over the air filter) working in Cordele.

NS 5153 crossing the Cordele interlocking on the siding. One gondola in tow with a EOT, prearing to tie up at the yard office. The tiny yard office has a wye track just long enough for an engine to turn there.

CSX 4442 holds the siding with the local while CSX 4 leads a train east.

Heading west crossing the NS GS&F District, NS' mainline between Macon and Jacksonville which sees over 20 trains a day. The single track line has a passing siding through the middle of town, seen here. The CSX Fitgerald Sub, the single track interlocking off to the right of the pic, is their mainline between Manchester and Waycross, and sees over 40 trains a day. This is also a single track mainline, and has two passing sidings on each end of town. All 3 railroads have locals based here, and all interchange with each other in some very interesting arrangements.

I've neglected this thread for almost a year now, although I have been fortunate enough to have railfanned several times since. Picking up where I left off -

A southbound CSX on the Fitzgerald Sub passes a northbound waiting at Cordele with a refreshing variation of power.

This engine reeks of ex California Northern / Southern Pacific heritage. Note the bell mounted on the cab roof and the cutout for a Pyle Gyralight on the low nose.

The HOG local returns to the yard after working the Nubord mill on the west end of town, passing by a rail served customer.

It's always interesting seeing former northern units repurposed down south. 1540 definitely showing some Canadian heritage, putting in work in Cordele.

I was elated when a friend told me there was a GP30 working on the HOG. The day I ventured trackside, it was tied down in their yard. I would catch it in action later on.
