Downtown Fresno CA color on display, where the SJVR ties into the UPRR at Ventura St. Scenes like this will soon be quite different thanks to the CHSRA plowing right through the middle of this area, requiring a good bit of track realignment.

On a brief return to trip to south GA recently, I happened to catch some G&W action on the way back west. CCH 3348, a SD40-2, leads the daily Hilton & Albany road train with a trailing former RCPE/DME SD40-2 west towards the Hilton yard where the CIRR cars will be interchanged, and BAYL cars forwarded over the CHAT. Many cars are destined for the large GP mill at Cedar Springs, GA, empty boxcars for product loading.  
 
This was the former NS Dothan District or "J Line" which is the only source of NS traffic for the CIRR, CHAT, and BAYL. An interchange at Arlington, GA also connects the GSWR.

The Chattahoochee Bay Railroad connects Hilton, GA with Dothan, AL over the same former NS route as the HAL and was acquired in 2006 by G&W, having been a G&O property since sale by NS in 2003. It's now an integral part of the NS link for the area.  
 
Here we have former Appalachicola Northern GP15T #721 and Indiana Southern #4040 leading a westbound road local over the CSX bow line in Dothan, AL after switching the local Schnitzer scrapyard.

A better shot of the ISOR unit. 4040 and a sister unit 4041 came to the south in late 2015, several years after the acquisition of RailAmerica properties. For some time they operated as a matched set on the CHAT, occasionally broken up with some of the other local Dothan power pool. While it makes for a colorful show and certainly an interesting day as a railfan, it is rather sad that almost none of the railroads in the southern region operate home road power. One could wonder for years who the owner is of the tracks out front of their home or business as sometimes a different road name will appear each day.  
 
It was especially hard as a railfan trying to document each line and actually get a home road unit for future generations to revel in. I know of no other place where motive power changes are so rampant.
