Matt - Going to Corry is hit or miss. The WNYP from what I hear has gone to next to nothing traffic, and the B&P is only 3 days a week... might want to start out at Warren and chase it. I remember going to Corry 8 or so years ago, caught a B&P train westbound with 5 engines, all were raggedy and grimy, had old ex-KYLE units, an ALY, and one of the old R&S units.... along with old Western Maryland and Chessie hoppers with original paint showing through it definitely was impressive.

Mike - I used to live in Lakewood, NY about a half hour away, I did get to see the Climax on previous journeys. For a small city the museum does have some interesting displays.

One more for today, going away shot of the Brickyard local working Columbus, GA

CIRR 716 (ex AN Railway) heads south on the mainline past the GP paper mill, the main customer on this short yet busy road.

Thanks for the advice. Does the B&P have a schedule or is it strictly as-needed? I realize the schedule (if it does exist) would a rough approximation, since shortlines tend to change their schedules to facilitate their customers and/or interchange with other RRs.

The best way to find out is the BPRR yahoo group list. Living in GA, I don't have the luxury of railfanning it but on a once a year basis...

Thanx again.  Speaking of the B&P, I caught a local at Buffalo Creek Yard last week.

Rochester & Southern RR's Brooks Avenue Yard was pretty active when I saw it last week. GP38 #50 is back in service after suffering fire damage last year:

I believe this red switcher belongs to Jones Chemical (which is an R&S customer in Caledonia).

R&S #879 a chopped nose GP9 that was originally built for the N&W.

Ex-BPRR GP38-2 #2030 is apparently a recent arrival on the property:

All photos in this post were taken by me on Wednesday 9/25/2013 in Chili, NY.

That red EMD switch loco appears to be the one that has been at CRC on Rt. 5 just west of Caledonia for several years. Photographed it there last October.

Anyone know why it was in the Brooks Avenue yard?

Thank you for the clarification, Paul. I have no idea why the switcher was at the R&S yard. The shots happened very quickly, as I was dropping off a rental car at the airport (nearby) before returning to work.

A MOW crew unloads rail on the Smithville Sub of the GSWR in Shellman, GA to replace Sperry car defect rail. This Sub is mostly 85# welded rail, with some 115# welded rail and 100# switches. New 115# stick rail is being laid west out of Dawson to replace the badly worn 85# rail. BL 511 is the power for this 1960's vintage ex wood rack car, one of two in MOW service on this shortline.

Matt - great catch on G&W 50. I figured that would have gone in for a repaint when G&W 51 did, but it's nice to see one of the original GP40's still out there. I was able to catch the 51 back in 2009 in Bradford, PA but have never seen the 50 in person.

Nice pictures Matt! (as always!)
yep, the red switcher belongs to Commodity Resource Corporation" at P&L junction.
(someone said "Jones Chemical"? has their name changed recently? perhaps..but its the facility at P&L junction in Caledonia..)
We determined on a thread a few years ago:
http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38329&start=30
That the switchers heritage is:

Currently No. 21
EMD NW2
Serial No. 1476
nee Philadelphia Bethlehem and New England RR number 21. (Bethlehem Steel's in-plant railroad, Bethlehem, PA)
to the South Buffalo in 1994
never lettered SB, to B&P, leased 2003 to Commodity Resource Group, Caledonia, NY

Dont know exactly why it was at Brooks ave yard..three possibilities:
1. It's heading out somewhere for work/maintenance of some kind, and will be back.
2. It's returning from somewhere for work/maintenance of some kind, and is going back to Caledonia.
3. It's been sold, and is heading out, never to return.

1 or 2 are most likely..

Quote:

Most likely not the *ex* BPRR 2030, it is probably the *current* BPRR 2030.
just loaned to the R&S for a bit..R&S and BPRR swap power all the time..
but either way, it's new to these parts! looks like it arrived earlier this year.

Scot, thank you too for the information and kind words. I made the reference to Jones Chemical- wasn't that the name of the facility at one time?

Im not sure! so I googled it..
Jones Chemical is the R&S customer in Caledonia at the east end of the NYC tracks, east of route 36:

http://www.jcichem.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=110&Itemid=494

Im pretty sure the industry right at P&L junction has always been "Commodity Resource Corp"

http://www.crcconnect.com/industrial_sites.html

They are the ones that own the switcher..
but this is interesting! notice that their website says:
Quote:
▪  Property is serviced by LA&L Railroad with on demand switching
▪  Connections to CSX, CP, NS & G&W Railroads

serviced by LAL? not R&S? that's surprising..
I have never heard of LAL power running down to Caledonia..(except when LAL power runs through on the R&S coming to or from Silver Springs) but I have never heard of LAL running down to Caledonia for switching at Commodity Resource Corp.  has anyone?

Two Bay Line workhorses far away from home at the Columbus and  Chattahoochee Railroad Columbus GA yard. The caboose was brought for use on shove moves along the long section of street running on 6th St, but doesn't seem to ever be used, most likely as it requires a few extra moves, which transportation dept employees don't seem to care for.......

Ah, now I understand the difference between Jones and CRC. Thanx again.

Just a guess- maybe the LA&L provides a crew to operate the switcher?

Had a conversation with the CRC manager in Caledonia a few years ago when I was back east. He revealed that CRC employees operate the switch loco there. This unit is equipped for remote control but it was related that this equipment is not utilized.

The concern for which the LA&L provides switching service is located within the LA&L yard limits at Lakeville: BPD.

Roughly, what is the schedule for the B&P between Buffalo and Bradford?  Noticing that they aren't running the "normal" schedule that I've been used to for years.

The CHAT local works the Hilton, GA yard before heading west across the Chattahoochee River to Dothan, AL. This busy yard in the far southwest corner of the state sees over 4 trains a day. The HAL road train, CIRR local, CHAT local, and HAL local, as well as unit coal trains bound for Cedar Springs, GA paper mill several times a month, and new Gunderson unit rock trains bound for Panama City, FL several times a week, service started last month.
